Dot Week
September 15th - ish....
Therefore, we will be celebrating this week!
This day began in 2009 by a group of educators - a day for classes to explore the story's powerful themes: BRAVERY, CREATIVITY, and SELF-EXPRESSION!
The story, The Dot is a story about a caring teacher who reaches a reluctant student in a remarkably creative way. In this story the teacher dares a very resistant Vashti to "make her mark". Vashti breaks through with a simple dot on a piece of paper. Encouraged by her teacher she sets off on a journey of self-discovery, letting her creativity bloom and, ultimately, inspire others.....
Help your students realize their importance in making their mark in this world! Help them realize there is Only One of them.....They are important, no matter who they are.....
Ms. Still will help your students in Art time this week design thier dots! Once they are finished, they will be turned into Becky at the front office!
This is the start of our journey to help all our students realize they are important to us here at Sunset and that we believe in them!
So, your part is to read The Dot book to your class BEFORE art! We have 2 copies in the office! As soon as you read it, please return it to the office for another class to take and read! Those that have art Tuesday, have first priority!
Securing your Students' Attention - Challenge
1. Shown Consistency
2. Maintained a sense of happiness - not a sense of stress - allowing you to maintain your power with your students
Continue to work on consistency! Way to go! Thank you for taking the challenge! Read on for your next challenge....
Daily Learning Targets
Remember to set your students up for success by allowing them to know their learning expectations by:
1. Posting Learning Targets
2. Unpacking them with your students
3. Revisiting them throughout the lesson so that your students stay on coarse
4. Tell the WHY behind getting to learn the task at hand
5. Have a method of assessing the DLT
