Mother/Son "Rock Around the Clock" is Tonight!!

The Mother/Son "Rock Around the Clock" is finally here! The doors will open at 7:00 pm. Don't have your tickets yet? No can buy them at the door.

Thank you to the PTO volunteers for organizing this event, along with the other parent volunteers who signed up for various committees. Check next week's newsletter for pictures from tonight's event.

Field Day for 3rd and 4th Grade

Field Day is Friday, May 20th for 3rd and 4th grade students. A permission slip went home in Friday folders, and must be returned by Thursday, May 19th in order for students to attend Field Day.

Students should wear tennis shoes and comfortable (dress code appropriate) clothes on Field Day, as well apply sunscreen that morning. It would be a great idea to send extra water bottles and a hat with your child that day.

Coach D and Coach Lash are in need of volunteers to help run stations that day. If you are available to volunteer, please click on the following link:

Ocean Week Opening Ceremony

Join us for the Ocean Week Opening Ceremony on Friday, May 20th at 1:45 pm. Students will get an overview of the different ocean habitats, as well as the week's activities. Kindergarten will also sing a couple of ocean-themed songs! Ocean Week 2016 is going to be a blast!

OCEAN WEEK 2016: May 23rd - 27th!!!

Are You Returning Forms

Don't forget to return the "Are You Returning" forms to the front office by Friday. Having an accurate count helps us with staffing for the following school year. Forms were sent home in last week's Friday folders with all current Pre-K through 2nd grade students. Current 3rd and 4th grade students did not receive a form since they will be moving to the Intermediate campus next year.

Student Placement Profile

Friday, May 20th is the last to turn in Student Placement Profile forms. Forms were sent home in last week's Friday folders for current Pre-K through 2nd grade students. This is your opportunity to describe the classroom environment that would make learning successful for your child. Building classes takes a lot of thought and time, and we rely on input from teachers and parents as we build classes. Specific teacher requests will not be accepted, as the focus should be on describing the optimal learning environment.

School Supplies On Sale

Want to beat the "Back to School" rush in August to buy school supplies? Then pre-order your child's school supplies through PTO! It's easy and keeps you from having to fight the crowds in the school supply aisles in August. All pre-ordered school supplies will be delivered to your child's classroom on Meet The Teacher Night in August.

If your child is moving to Lago Vista Intermediate School next year (this year's current 3rd and 4th grade students), you will be able to purchase pre-ordered school supplies too. I am attaching the order form to the newsletter.

Summer School

Summer school hours have been set, and invitations have been sent out. If your child received an invitation, summer school starts June 6th at 8:30. The first session will run June 6th –June 16th from 8:30-11:30, Monday-Thursday. The second session runs August 1st – August 11th from 8:30 – 11:30, Monday-Thursday. A small snack will be provided to students. If your child is attending summer school, it is very important for him/her to be in attendance every day. If you have any questions regarding your child’s invitation to summer school, please contact your child’s teacher.

Lost and Found is FULL

Please remind your child to stop by the Lost and Found bucket (located in the cafeteria) to look for any lost items. Jackets, hats, backpacks, shoes, lunch boxes, toys, blankets, etc. have been laid out on tables by the Lost and Found bucket and on the stage to help locating missing items easier. All items will be donated at the end of the year.

Yearbook Information

Our 2015-2016 yearbooks are on sale now. We are in need of pictures for the yearbook. If you have taken pictures at various school functions, please email them to Melissa Freeman at

LVISD Monthly Character Trait...

May's Character Trait is Gratitude - Say thank you for the things you receive. Think about what you are thankful for and why. Show others how nice it feels to be remembered and appreciated by someone. Write thank you cards. Enjoy giving back. Understand that you are not owed things, you earn them.

How are you showing Gratitude? Read the Counselor's Corner to find out what students are learning about how to be responsible with Ms. Box.

Counselor's Corner

We are continuing to learn about gratitude this month. In addition to showing our appreciation to our teachers, we have been looking at how gratitude can benefit each of us and make us happier individuals. Research has shown that people who show gratitude on a regular basis reap many benefits. Take a look at what Forbes magazine has to say about the research on gratitude:

1. Gratitude opens the door to more relationships.

2. Gratitude improves physical health.

3. Gratitude improves psychological health.

4. Gratitude enhances empathy and reduces aggression.

5. Grateful people sleep better.

6. Gratitude improves self-esteem.

7. Gratitude increases mental strength.
