A Message from Principal Boucher
Spring Lake Park High School families:
Whew! It’s been a busy few weeks. Thank you to everyone for tracking and supporting schedule changes, ACT testing for juniors, participation in our first ever virtual career expo and navigating our first Wednesday spring schedule. It takes a whole community to make this happen!
Please remember, it is a short week and there is no school Friday, April 2. Learning will resume again Monday, April 5.
Here are a few important updates for you this week:
- Prom: Spring Lake Park High School prom will be Saturday, May 22 at Spring Lake Park High School. Prom will be limited to SLPHS juniors and seniors only (no students from other grades or other schools). We’ll have more information in the coming weeks. For now, simply mark your calendar.
- Graduation planning for June 11: We’re in full-on planning mode to offer in-person graduation on Friday, June 11. We are still working through capacity guidelines for onsite and offsite options. Watch for an update in the next few weeks.
- Registration for 2021-2022 opens today: Students in grades 9-11 will work with counselors the week of April 5 to officially complete their registration for next year. Over the next few weeks, I encourage students and families to explore and discuss options. With new opportunities for how to learn – school-based, flex (hybrid) and online – there is a lot to consider. I hope you will join us for an info session – April 1 or April 6 to learn more. See details in the newsletter.
- SLP Schools Online: We have had a full-time online high school for 13 years. We’re now expanding and improving that experience for the 2021-2022 school year based on what we’ve learned in this year of pandemic. Please see the description in today’s newsletter and complete the interest form if you want additional information. This also will be an option students have for consideration during registration.
- State testing for grades 10 and 11: Each spring, students across Minnesota take the Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment (MCA) or the Minnesota Test of Academic Skills (MTAS). Our students in grades 10 and 11 take these tests. The tests measure how well schools are doing in advancing state standards for reading, math, and science. This year, we are being required to administer the tests in person, and we will do so in April and May. Families of students in grades 10 and 11 received a message earlier today with more information about the tests and the process to opt-out if you choose.
It has been an exciting and eventful week, and I appreciate you taking the time to be informed and carefully read and receive the communications and newsletters we have been sending out lately. Spring is always busy, but spring 2021 may be unlike previous years and we will work to communicate through all that is coming as we head towards the close of the 2020-21 school year. Thank you as always for your ongoing partnership. One school, one community, #SLPPantherProud!

Interested in learning more? SLP Schools Online expands to K-12
Spring Lake Park Schools is expanding its 13-year-old online school from grades 9-12 to all grade levels for the 2021-2022 school year. A year of learning through the pandemic has created an interest in the next phase of our Spring Lake Park Schools approach to online learning.
Students who choose SLP Schools Online will cover the same concepts as their in-school peers but tailored to an online environment. The focus is on helping students develop both academic and life competencies aligned to state standards. Learning advocates (SLP teachers) are connected to each learner to help guide and support the learning.
Read more about SLP Schools Online K-8 and 9-12 learning models. Interested or have questions? Please complete this brief interest form. We’ll be hosting information sessions in the coming weeks for families who express interest in SLP Schools Online as an enrollment option for 2021-2022.
