Orientation Meeting with Mrs. Haas
Our 2020-2021 Back to School Orientation meeting will be recorded and emailed to all parents on Tuesday, August 18th. This recording will cover a variety of important topics, including changes that are being made to morning drop off, lunches, teacher meetings, afternoon pick up, etc. It is critical that all families watch this important video.
If you have any questions following the video, parents are encouraged to email Mrs. Haas or pop on to a live Zoom chat with her at 10am on Monday, August 24th.
Virtual Learning
If your family has chosen virtual learning for your child to start the school year, there are some important dates coming up. We need everyone on board to ensure that all students, even those doing virtual learning, are ready to start on the first day of school.
- An adult from each family choosing virtual learning is required to attend an informational meeting on Wednesday, August 19th at either 9am or 3:30pm.
- Teachers are working to compile learning materials that virtual students will need to work successfully from home. These materials will be available for pick up in the office on August 24th between 7:30am and 5:00pm. Parents of virtual students are required to stop by during these hours on the 24th to pick up materials.
Finally, it is CRITICAL that we have accurate records of your decision for virtual learning. Most parents indicated their wish on a form at the end of July.

Carline App - Earn 3 dress down passes for your child
We are excited to share that after careful consideration, our school will now be using a program to help organize the school dismissal process and improve safety. This program is a phone application downloaded onto your smart phone (found in the app store) and will allow you to notify the school of pick-up changes and authorize others to pick-up your child from school, alert you when your child has been picked up, as well as help organize the car line during pick-up.
The registration process is easy and we ask that all parents register with the phone application as soon as possible. Students whose parents register by Friday, August 21 will receive three dress down passes. Several resources are included below to help you understand how to use the application and assist you with this transition. Please make sure you register with your personal current mobile phone number or the app will not allow you to access your child’s information for security reasons.
If you do not think the school has your mobile number on file or if your child does not appear in your app’s home page, contact support@pikmykid.com mailto:support@pikmykid.com after registration, with your child’s name, school, grade, and updated contact information for you.
Anyone who will be picking up your child should also register themselves with the application. Their screen will be blank and they will not have any authorization until you allow it within the app.

Picnic Tables
Our PTO Board recently approved the purchase of 9 picnic tables to provide alternative locations for student lunches during Covid 19 and our efforts to socially distance. The nine picnic tables cost approximately $7,000. We are grateful for the support of the PTO Board and our entire community in previous fundraising projects that allowed this purchase to happen. Our classes will take turns eating lunch outside once the weather cools off.
Thank you to Mr. Eden and Taylor Fedderly who led a recent effort to assemble the picnic tables. Will, Jayden, Madelyn, Kaitlyn, and Jack, thank you for your hard work and dedication to St. Joseph Catholic School. God Bless you all!

Masks
A few reminders about face masks for students:
- All students in kindergarten through grade 8 will be required to wear masks.
- Students in PreK 3 and VPK are strongly encouraged to wear a mask.
- Masks must be solid in color, free of logos or markings. The only acceptable marking would be a small manufacturer logo.
- Gaiters or other scarf type coverings are not acceptable. If a student wears a mask that is deemed unacceptable, a disposable mask will be issued for the day.
- Masks should not have vents.
- The school will issue mask holders to all students. These will be REQUIRED for all students. The purpose of this mask holder, purchased by our Booster Club, is to ensure that the masks remain with the individual student and doesn't fall on the floor or get mixed up with someone else's.
- Please be sure your child is practicing wearing a mask at home. Teach your child the importance of the face mask and encourage him/her not to touch it.
- The Booster Club is selling SJCS masks for $10. Order yours today by calling the school office or email Mrs. Collany at katie@collany.com.

Open House
As is tradition, we will hold Open House on Tuesday, August 25th, the day before school starts. However, due to Covid19, Open House will look a bit different this year. Unfortunately, we will not be allowing families to go into the classrooms this year. Teachers will be in specific locations to greet the families and accept school supplies. Please note that the gym and parish center will be cleaned between each group/grade level. Additionally, masks will be required and temperature checks will occur before anyone is permitted to enter the building(s).
