CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ALL-STATE MUSICIANS

Eleven students will represent GCISD as Texas All-State musicians at the 2020 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Clinic/Convention. Three of the eleven are Grapevine High School Band students. Kristen Edwards, flute; Megan Ja, clarinet; and Mikey Strobel, trumpet.

Notes from the Directors

Good afternoon, Mustang Band!



  • Please turn in the originals of your solos for the contest! Measures numbered, name, school. If you need a copy made of your solo please see Ms. Irby ASAP
  • Solo and Ensemble Contest is after school Friday, Feb. 7th at CHHS. Students should be at CHHS at least 30 minutes before their performance time.
  • Solo Contest times will be posted on the whiteboard. Students should wear dress clothes to the contest . Jeans, sneakers, t-shirts, are not acceptable.
  • Students that are ineligible are not allowed to perform at this event. They will do an alternate performance to count for this event. They are still expected to perform a solo and all ensembles will perform in class this week.
  • Solo and Ensemble fees are late and should be turned in ASAP.
  • An informational Hawaii trip meeting will be held in the GHS band hall on Feb. 24th at 7PM. Parents and students travelling to Hawaii must attend this event.
  • Next year’s summer band and marching season schedule are posted on the Mustang Band calendar. This schedule is TENTATIVE!! We have projected the schedule for your planning purposes this summer and fall. The schedule will be updated as we solidify dates.
  • There are some students that have an outstanding balance on their band fees, winterguard fees or indoor percussion fees. Please check your Charms account and make sure to deposit any outstanding fees into the safe.
  • If you are in a NEW BAND CLASS join the Remind (see below).

      Each student in the Mustang Band is required to perform a solo and ensemble at the GCISD Solo and Ensemble Contest on Friday, February 7.


      Winds (CHHS):

      Students are responsible for the registration fee of $8 per solo and ensemble ($16 total) as well as paying for their piano accompanist $40. The grand total is $56.


      Percussion (GHS):

      Students are responsible for the registration fee of $8 per solo and $8 per ensemble.

      Booster Notes

      • Solo and Ensemble Fees have been added to your CHARMS account.
      • There are several students that have outstanding payments on their Band Fee, Guard Fee, and Indoor Percussion Fee. Please check CHAMRS to ensure you are up-to-date on all of your payments. Our programs rely on the fees being paid on-time in order to purchase necessary materials to perform. Planning for the 2020 season has already started and we have already hired designers and started working on the marching show. Please make sure you are up-to-date with payments.       Will you BEE Mine? Cookie Decorating FUNdraiser

      We are buzzing with excitement about the next GHS Band FUNdraiser! Cookies by Lori will be teaching a cookie decorating class on Feb 12th. Lori will be donating a portion of sales back to the band!


      Cookies, icing, tools needed to decorate will be provided and you will learn to decorate the adorable cookies pictured below.


      The class is for adults and kids. (We ask that children be 8yrs and up)

      Location: GHS Student Activity Center (Cafeteria)

      Cost: $40 per person - a portion of all sales will be donated to the band!

      HAWAII MEETING

      Monday, Feb. 24th, 7pm

      Guard Info

      The NTCA Scholarship is now available! See Mr. Samuels for more details.


      We are in need of a Guard Liason. This person would work alongside the Mr. Samuels, Mr. Redd, and the booster executive committee to help with the guard program.


      The guard is also in need of volunteers to help with uniform fittings and alterations. The dates are TBD, but if you would like to potentially help email Mr. Redd (William.redd@gcisd.net).

      Our show this year is called "Pull." Centered around a theme of gravity and utilizing our floor's galaxy design, the performers will constantly be pulled into the center of the black hole, and will always be fighting gravity's unstoppable forces.

      Instrument Repair Form

      If you have a broken school-owned instrument that needs repaired, go to the band website to fill out the repair form. Follow the directions carefully.

      Lost Music Form

      If you have lost your music and need a copy, WE HAVE A SOLUTION! The form must be completed 48 hours before the time you need music so the librarians can get you copies.
