Red Wolf
The red wolf is endangered in North Carolina!
The Red Wolf
The last and very few Red wolves in NC are found in the coastal areas in prairies and marshes. Red wolves have been endangered because of mainly there loss of habitat and intense predator control. They have been almost officially named extinct in the wild in 1980 but came back in 1987 because the last 17 or so were captured and bred to then be released. They are continuing to come back do to capture and then breeding them to then release them in a 1.5 million acre area and then the wild. There are slowly increasing over the years.
