Congratulations Individual State Speech Qualifiers
The Van Meter High School Speech team had a fantastic showing at districts this year. We had 19 students compete. 14 students earned a 1 rating and have qualified for the state competition that we will be hosting at Van Meter on Thursday, March 11th. Congratulations to our state qualifying speech members: Tico Angel (spontaneous speaking) Creighton Netten (individual improvisation), Brandon Zehr (radio news), Shae Bernhardt (musical theater), Meridan Boyd (musical theater and acting), Arica Honkomp (poetry), Madeline Roeder (original oratory), Regan Bernhardt (after dinner speaking), Molly Champion (review and radio news), Hannah Lake (storytelling), Laynie Madden (storytelling), and Sawyer Nelson (storytelling).
Congratulations to all of the participants and Coach Martin! Great job!
Spring Break from March 15-19
We are not planning to implement any procedures any differently than what we have been doing at this time. No one who travels will need to quarantine or isolate unless they are showing COVID-19 symptoms or if they have a known exposure to COVID-19. i.e. just because someone is traveling, doesn't mean they can't come back to school on Monday, March 22.
Enjoy your time off!
We will continue to evaluate our COVID-19 mitigation strategies as the school year progresses. Thanks for all you are doing to keep yourself and others safe.
New Travel Requirements:
All air passengers coming to the United States, including U.S. citizens, are required to have a negative COVID-19 test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States. See the Frequently Asked Questions for more information.
Masks are required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and in U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations.
Active COVID-19 Cases through March 5
As of today, all Van Meter staff members who have chosen to get vaccinated have had the opportunity to receive their 1st vaccination shot and many are scheduled for their 2nd dose. We appreciate the efforts of Leslie and Sumpter Pharmacy to help get our team vaccinated.
Please do your part to continue to keep your distance from others. It is imperative we all do what we can for us to continue to go to school on-site full-time.
A few kids have been sent home with symptoms as well. Those students are allowed to return if they:
- receive a negative test result,
- see symptoms improve,
- and get a different diagnosis from a doctor.
Please do your part to keep us informed if you think your child has been exposed to COVID-19 outside of the school setting. Parents have been doing an awesome job of keeping kids home when they are sick. Keep it up!
Be sure to inform the district if anyone in your household contracts COVID-19. Students should not be at school if they have been exposed to a member of the household who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if they are sick. Remember that masks should be worn at school anytime students/staff cannot socially distance themselves from others. Masks will be worn more time than they are not.
We need to continue to encourage students to keep their distance, wear masks when they can't, wash their hands, and stay home when sick. We know it isn't ideal, but we all need to do our part to keep pushing through this pandemic.
We will continue to need your help in trying to keep the spread of COVID-19 limited. If in doubt, error on the side of keeping them home until we can help navigate the next steps with the Dallas County Health Department. Thanks!
