Big picture

SAVE THE DATE - FUN FAIR 2020 IS MARCH 13

Congratulations to Mila Masny (4NP) and Emily Maxwell (5KJ). Their designs for the Fun Fair were selected (and combined) for use as our Fun Fair logo. We had a great response with about 30-40 entries.

These girls will each receive a wristband for Fun Fair participation and the design will be used on our publicity, tickets, and decorating.

ATTENDANCE MATTERS

School attendance is very important and we will do whatever we can to assist you in getting your children to school on time each day. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help! Setting up an "Attendance Action Plan" with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff is one way we can provide an additional level of support for students with attendance issues.

  • Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade.
  • Research shows that missing 10 percent of school negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.

It is important for you to call the attendance line (815-337-8620) when your child will be absent. Report all symptoms your child is experiencing. Regular attendance is vital to student success at school and we are diligent about following attendance procedures for all students.

READ TO SUCCEED - SIX FLAGS

Please remember to register your child to the SIX FLAGS READ TO SUCCEED program if you are interested in having your child participate. This year the program is run a bit differently since we will not have an all-school reading program in February. Teachers have share the log in information that is specific for each class. If you need more information you can contact the office (815-338-0473) or your child's teacher.

To participate students need to read for 6 hours, complete the reading log on the Six Flags website, and then tickets will be given to the students at the end of the year.

REGISTER BY APRIL 17, 2020

BAND NEWS FROM MRS. SCHWEIHS

AWESOME CONCERT & OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR A SHORT WINDOW OF TIME

CONGRATULATIONS to the band students on an outstanding Winter Concert! Our normal schedule has resumed, and we will be continuing our journey of learning about music and our instruments, building our individual and team skills. I'm excited for our year ahead!

If there are any 5th graders that would like the opportunity to join band, this time of year would be a great opportunity to jump in, before we are close to concert season again. Parents of interested students should reach out to Mrs. Schweihs soon by email. Dojo is harder to find me, because I am a travelling teacher. Feel free to reach out with any questions at dschweihs@wcusd200.org!

DRESSING FOR THE COLD WEATHER

  • Coats, boots, and snow pants are required for playing in the snow.
  • Extra socks, gloves, sweatshirts, and hats can be left in the locker for use as needed.
  • Students are not to share their hats or coats with other students.
  • Students will go outside for recess unless the temperature (with wind chill) is zero or below.
Here's the Calendar for our 2nd grade Everyone Reads program! EVERYONE READS CALENDAR

Please complete this form to positively recognize an Olson staff member! We'll share these with staff! OLSON STAFF "SHOUT OUT"
