EDITION #21 - WEEK OF JANUARY 13, 2020
OLSON CUSTODIAL STAFF - THANK YOU!!!
MR. TIM O'BRIEN
Night Custodian - Mr. O'Brien was new to Olson as a full-time evening custodian last year. He's been a great addition and was also instrumental in building and remodeling spaces to provide for the move of the Challenger Center.
MR. FRED BOWE
Night Custodian - Mr. Bowe worked at other D200 buildings before coming to Olson about 10 years ago. He has been primarily been responsible for upstairs classrooms. He also works diligently every summer to make sure all classrooms are emptied, thoroughly cleaned, and set back up for a new year.
MR. JOSE ESPARZA
Head Custodian - Mr. Esparza has been at Olson for many years, and officially became the Head Custodian in 2018. His work to maintain our facilities, keep everything clean and shiny, and to assist staff and students whenever necessary is greatly appreciated!

SAVE THE DATE - FUN FAIR 2020 IS MARCH 13
Congratulations to Mila Masny (4NP) and Emily Maxwell (5KJ). Their designs for the Fun Fair were selected (and combined) for use as our Fun Fair logo. We had a great response with about 30-40 entries.
These girls will each receive a wristband for Fun Fair participation and the design will be used on our publicity, tickets, and decorating.
- Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade.
- Research shows that missing 10 percent of school negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence.
It is important for you to call the attendance line (815-337-8620) when your child will be absent. Report all symptoms your child is experiencing. Regular attendance is vital to student success at school and we are diligent about following attendance procedures for all students.
READ TO SUCCEED - SIX FLAGS
To participate students need to read for 6 hours, complete the reading log on the Six Flags website, and then tickets will be given to the students at the end of the year.
REGISTER BY APRIL 17, 2020

BAND NEWS FROM MRS. SCHWEIHS
AWESOME CONCERT & OPEN ENROLLMENT FOR A SHORT WINDOW OF TIME
CONGRATULATIONS to the band students on an outstanding Winter Concert! Our normal schedule has resumed, and we will be continuing our journey of learning about music and our instruments, building our individual and team skills. I'm excited for our year ahead!
If there are any 5th graders that would like the opportunity to join band, this time of year would be a great opportunity to jump in, before we are close to concert season again. Parents of interested students should reach out to Mrs. Schweihs soon by email. Dojo is harder to find me, because I am a travelling teacher. Feel free to reach out with any questions at email@example.com!
DRESSING FOR THE COLD WEATHER
- Coats, boots, and snow pants are required for playing in the snow.
