Assembly
We started this week with a Junior High assembly to celebrate all the great things happening this year! Students who are participating in football, volleyball, student council, and the fall play were recognized, and we received some updates about the upcoming Washington D.C. popcorn fundraiser. We gave the students positive feedback on how well they've responded to this year's expectations for Chromebooks, phones, dress code, and tardies. The 7th and 8th graders then battled in an epic kickball game, with the 8th grade coming out on top.
Homecoming Week
Homecoming Week is Sept. 26-30. The junior high Student Council is meeting this week to choose the dress-up days and to plan next Friday's in-school activities. We will send the dress-up days via I.C. so you can help your student plan their outfits!
iReady Testing & WIN Time
Students finished taking their fall iReady diagnostic for reading and math last week. Teachers will help students review their growth and goals based on their results, and students will be invited into academic interventions based on need for support. Testing and interventions occur during 4th Hour WIN time (What I Need). Students who do not require interventions will have a variety of activities, including Motivational Monday, academic & career planning, and literacy activities. Intervention cycles are 6-8 weeks, and students work with Lucas Stelter, our district math specialist; Brittany O'Toole, our district reading specialist; Norma Limmex, district reading interventionist; and Nancy Stippich, our district math interventionist & advanced learning coordinator; as well as the junior high classroom teachers. Students' progress is monitored to measure growth and make adjustments to better meet their needs, and students may move in and out of interventions throughout the school year.
Drill Day
We conducted a district-wide drill to practice our standard response procedures in the event of a hazardous situation on school grounds last Wednesday, Sept. 14. Students did a great job of following directions and learning our procedures for various situations. The drills included fire, tornado, and lockdowns, and were conducted with the help of the Marquette County Sheriff's Dept.
School Meal Information
School breakfast and lunch will be free to all students for the 2022-23 school year. Breakfast is available both before school and at the start of 3rd Hour (mid-morning). Junior high and high school students will also have the option to purchase 'a la carte lunch items beginning the week of Sept. 19. If students wish to purchase 'a la carte items or additional meals (e.g. a second breakfast), they will need money in their school lunch account. Funds can be added virtually through your Infinite Campus accounts or by bringing a check to the office. Students can also pay with cash in the lunch line.
Immunization Clinic on Oct. 3
We are hosting an optional student immunization clinic in the Community Room from 2-5pm on Oct. 3. Most common childhood immunizations will be available at no cost. Detailed information and consent forms will be sent home with your child early next week, along with a free at-home COVID test kit.
Parent Roundtable on Oct. 27
We will host the first of this year's Junior High parent/guardian roundtables at 7:00pm on Thursday, Oct. 27. Parent-teacher conferences are held that night from 4:00-8:00pm, and the following day from 8:00am-noon. Junior High students' parents/guardians are invited to the roundtable to discuss their ideas, concerns, and questions about how things are going in 7 & 8th grade this year.
