School Newsletter Term 1, Week 9
Friday 31st March 2023
Kia ora West End Whānau,
It was great to celebrate the learning from across Term 1 at our Vibe Assembly on Thursday. We were thrilled to see a good turnout of parents, caregivers and whānau at our assembly to share in the showcase of learning and performances from children across the school. We will be hosting three vibe assemblies in Term 2 and would love to see you there. Please keep your eye on our calendar for when these will be hosted.
Thank you to all of those people who have provided feedback on our Three Way Conference Survey so far (it’s not too late, please click on the link to go to the survey). Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback, it is appreciated.
We are looking forward to getting underway in Term 2 with the next part of our new reporting schedule. Please keep an eye out for next week’s newsletter for more information on what you can expect for reporting in next term.

VIBE Assembly on Thursday
We had a wonderful Vibe Assembly on Thursday where we had 6 classes perform and share their mahi. We also celebrated all of the sports that have been happening over the term, and recognised our 2023 Student Council and Sports Captains. Lots of singing, dancing and sharing!! It was fantastic to see so many of our whānau attending our Vibe Assembly! Thank you for your support! We have 3 Vibe Assemblies scheduled for Term 3. We look forward to seeing you then!
United Diversity in Tipuranga
In Tipuranga, this term, our focus has been around tūrangawaewae and kotahitanga. We have been identifying and discussing local landmarks and exploring our connection to the geography around our school through our pepeha.
In our classes we looked at the local art of Sarah Platt and how she depicts Palmerston North and the Manawatu. We then created our own piece of art inspired by her style. To celebrate our kotahitanga, classes created pieces of the landscape (school, river, ranges, bridge, wind turbines) then children each created their own house.
We are very proud of our hard work and feel that the art reflects our sense of belonging to West End School and our local environment, along with our tūrangawaewae - the place we all stand.
