FROM THE COUNSELOR

Our character trait for October is : SELF DISCIPLINE. Self-discipline is defined as the ability to control one's feelings and behavior, with the intention of improving oneself, or the ability to make yourself do the things that need or should be done. Self-discipline involves acting according to what you think instead of how you feel in the moment. Often it requires sacrificing an “in the moment” feeling or temptation for what matters most in life. Self-discipline is something the requires practice and development over time, and can be difficult. In order to develop self-discipline, you have to be aware of what you are doing and why. The “why” comes from a commitment that you are willing to make to a value or goal. Because self-discipline can be difficult, don’t pretend it is easy, instead find the courage to face it head on, encourage yourself and reassure yourself along the way. Share your value or goal with your family and friends so they can help you along the way. Talk as a family about some things you have accomplished or want to accomplish that required or require self-discipline.

BE THE ONE...

BE the ONE is an initiative to link Allen ISD schools in their efforts towards Character Education. The goal of BE the ONE is to create positive gains in the value structure of the students, faculty, parents, and community. BE the ONE is a common thread between the schools that will demonstrate to the community of Allen, Texas that Allen schools are working toward a common goal in the areas of Character Development.

We want to encourage you to purchase Be the ONE shirts for your family to spread the message that Olson is strong in supporting Character Education. Together, we can make a difference, but one by one we can show our community how effortless and contagious kindness can be.

If you are interested in purchasing a shirt, you may do so from September 29th – October 11th. The shirts will be a black a logo on the front, as well as a design on the back. Sizes range from Youth-Adult 4XL. Shirts may be ordered online at Allen ISD School Counselor page.

In addition to student safety, primary duties include handing out sporks and napkins and visiting with our students!
