MONDAY QUOTE

I USE THIS INFO-GRAPHIC TO REMIND ME OF OUR PURPOSE

RE-ESTABLISH, REVIEW, OR RE-TEACH ROUTINES (Danielson 2c: Managing Class Procedures)

Spring Break has ended. Our students have spent a week out of school with limited responsibilities, little to no routines, and probably limited amounts of critical thinking. Hopefully, you all did the same as it was a well deserved break. However, at 8:04 on Monday, our expectation is that all students will just fall back in line and stay within the boundaries. Please be sure to review or re-teach your expectations. These are different than the rules, your expectations are the pro-social behaviors you want to see. Please be sure to be specific and review all expectations including arrival to class, dismissal, working in groups, collection of homework and others. Spending time at the beginning of your classes can be the difference between a successful and peaceful return vs a difficult and stressful return.

TEACHING TIP

Engagement vs On-task (Danielson 3C: Engaging Students in Learning)

Click the picture to see the differences between on-task and engagement. When designing your lessons use this list to determine whether your students will be engaged or will they just be on-task. Engagement involves critical thinking and demonstrates a commitment to learning vs compliance based assignments. This is a good resource from Edutopia on the difference between on-task and engagement: http://bit.ly/1kTmnUb

Opinion: Five N.J. education proposals that should accompany evaluating teachers by student performance

Check out this article, written by retired teacher Frank Breslin. He compares what other professions would look like if they were evaluated the way teachers are evaluated.

Co-Teaching and Next Year's Schedule

To date, we have had several discussions regarding next year's schedule. As we have been discussing, our co-teaching model has been very successful and is supported greatly by a majority of the co-teaching pairs, leadership, and central office. In order to keep the co-teaching model, the schedule would be very similar to what we have now. We can align the students with one team, however, some teachers will teach students on both teams. This includes co-teaching pairs as well as individual general education teachers. We will continue to dialogue and we seek any suggestions you may have. If you have any ideas, suggestions, comments, please use this Google Doc http://bit.ly/1xPaQ04. To access this Google Doc you must be in the marsd.org browser.

Reminders:

  • If you are close to completing your SGO don't forget to upload to Teachscape and submit to whomever collected your SGO in the fall.
  • In addition, review your PGP and start filling out your evidence for meeting those goals as well.
  • NWEA schedule was sent out, please check your notes on the log in procedure
  • PARCC EOY rosters and rooms will be the same as the PBA
