News from the Learning Commons
Hello Marshal Readers! We are excited to welcome regular library visitors back to the learning commons when school begins. Students will be able to browse the shelves for books and have opportunities to participate in library activities this year, including visiting the makerspace, shopping at the book fair, and taking on a reading challenge or two. Be on the lookout for information about digital books, resources, and programs in Marty’s Memo and the PTO newsletter throughout the year.
Technology News: Please click here for information about student devices in MISD for the 2021-2022 school year. Note a change that all K-5 devices will now be stored at school, laptops won’t go home nightly until middle school. Returning 4th and 5th grade students need to plan to return their charged MISD laptops and chargers to their homeroom when school begins.
Visit the McClure Learning Commons website anytime to access learning links and digital books from home at tinyurl.com/mcclureLC. See you soon!

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued guidance that allows schools to offer meals to all students at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year. McKinney will be participating in the USDA waivers for free meals once again this school year. Healthy meals will be offered every school day to all students at no cost.
Typically, a student’s household must meet income eligibility requirements to qualify for free or reduced-price meals. While no application or eligibility determination is required for your student to receive free meals this school year, income eligibility requirements will likely resume in the 2022-2023 school year. As such, McKinney ISD will process household applications during School Year 2021-2022 to ensure student eligibility for free or reduced-price meals during the first 30 days of the 2022-2023 school year
Starting on August 3rd, MISD will begin processing online applications, as well as accepting written applications. Food Service strongly encourages families to apply online this year, however, we will provide schools with paper applications. Every school will be distributed a minimal amount of paper applications for parents to pick up if requested. We are asking each school to communicate or post the following link in newsletters, social media, or other forms of communication http://www.mckinneyisd.schoollunchapp.com/
