General Statistics

North Carolina is the 12th state made in the U.S.A. It is the 10th populous state and is the 28th biggest state in the U.S. Its largest city is Charlotte. It is 53,821 square miles and has the population of 9,848,060 residents. North Carolina has 100 counties and its major industries are farming (tobacco, etc.), textiles and furniture.

*State tree: Longleaf Pine

The flag was made in 1885 and the states main colors are: red, blue, and white

North Carolina is 1 hour ahead of Midwest states, and 2 hours ahead of the other regions, all but it's own region. It's capital is Raleigh.


The geography in North Carolina varies. There are:

*Piedmont Plateau-- red clay, lakes and rivers pass by

*Mountains with the soil that's rocky and thin

North Carolina's climate stays in a good range throughout the year. In the summer, it is mostly hot and humid, and in the winter, it's average temperatures are above freezing, but still somewhat cold. There are normally floods in the spring, and possibly hurricanes in the summer and in the fall.

Residents built earthwork mounds in North Carolina used for ceremonial and religious purposes. If they succeeded, they continued to build new mounds or add on to their other ones. Then, the Mississippian Culture built large complex cities. Finally, after lots of commotion, North Carolina became the 12th state of the U.S.


In 1795, North Carolina opened their first public university in the U.S named the University of North Carolina, and is now named the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. More than 200 years later, North Carolina created 17 more public universities. North Carolina now has also 58 public community colleges.

*North Carolina is known for jazz music and almost everyone there loves jazz. North Carolina was home to many famous jazz musicians!
