The Final Stretch

Welcome to the Fourth Quarter!

Happy Spring Break to everyone! I hope the weather finally cooperates so we can get outside to enjoy some sunshine! We are already one week into the final quarter of 8th grade. Students still have 40% of their overall average to earn. The final average for core academic classes is determined by adding together individual quarter averages together with the final exam grade and diving that number by 5. Possible failure letters have been mailed home to students whose overall average in an academic course is currently 70% or below. If your child hasn't performed well this year, there is still time and opportunity to improve and pass! Staying with teachers during Office Hours 9th period is extremely helpful. Encourage your student to check teacher and team websites for upcoming tests and quizzes. Student Portal is an important tool to check grades as well. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out. The final exam schedule is below. Please note that if your child does not have an exam on the date listed, they do not have to attend school. Bussing will be available for both 11:15 and 2:18 dismissals.

9th Grade Scheduling

Almost all 8th graders have completed their course requests for 9th grade. In June, you will receive a list of courses for which your student has been scheduled. If you or your child want to make changes to those courses, all changes MUST BE MADE BY JUNE 23rd. The High School will NOT accept changes after that date.

Starpoint Middle is ALL IN(CLUSIVE)!

"When everyone is included, everyone wins". ~Jesse Jackson

March is Disability Awareness Month. The Middle School used this as an opportunity to educate our students about the importance of acceptance and inclusivity. Each student signed their name on the sign in our lobby and "Choose to Include" bracelets were sold during lunches to not only increase awareness, but also to raise funds for the High School's Unified Sports Program. During the week of March 27-30, students were encouraged to wear colors specific to a disability. A video about that disability was shown each morning to educated the students and staff as well. This year we highlighted Cerebral Palsy (green), ADHD (orange), Down Syndrome (blue and yellow), and Autism (blue).

Lucky Duck Sale

With Paige Snyder taking the lead again this year, a few of our students worked during their lunches to raise money for Starmart and our Student Council’s Crush Cancer event. These amazing kids raised $531, to be split evenly between the causes. Ava, Amy, Emma, Tessa, Caiden. Zach, and Paige (missing are Laurel and Leland) - our school thanks you for your dedication!

Giving Back

A lesson we try to teach our middle schoolers is the importance of giving back to the community. The students in Mrs. Eberle, Mrs. Schwartz and Mrs. Zubricky's classes learned that this can be in the form of offering your time, your talents, or both! This year we continued the tradition of bringing joy to Fricano students in Mrs. Vergils and Mrs. Russo's classes and RIS students in Mrs. McNamara and Mrs. Geblein's classes by delivering Spring Bunny Baskets. The students decorated and filled their baskets with spring-themed trinkets then hid the baskets throughout the classrooms for the younger students to find.

Semi-Formal Dance

The WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) sponsored a semi-formal dance in February. The students danced to the amazing sounds of DJ Mrs. Leitten; played PlayStation games, ping pong, and cornhole; ate pizza and snacks; and had a great time!
