REPEAT ... 8th Grade Families - Note From Dr. Larry Smith, SHS Principal
Dear Class of 2027 Families,
We are excited to share more about the opportunities available to your student next year through College & Career Pathways at Staley High School. Pathways will support our students as they learn through the lens of broad career themes during their high school career. We certainly don’t expect students to choose their career now; our four industry-centered “schools within a school” will simply provide an opportunity to learn through an area of interest based on their strengths. Over the next few weeks, we have several activities planned for both students and families to learn more.
As students begin to share their pathway preferences and start high school enrollment, there are several upcoming dates to note:
Friday, January 27
Students will connect with teachers and students from Staley. This is a time to learn about the classes in pathways from the educators who will be teaching them next year and peers who are enrolled in them.
Week of January 30
Counselors will be available during lunch to answer pathway questions.
Wednesday, February 1st
Students will preference their pathway. They will use a scale of 1-5 to reflect their interest in each of the four industry-themed schools within Staley High School.
There are a variety of resources available about each of our pathways for both families and students. We encourage you to discuss these opportunities at home with your child. Additional information about NKC Schools’ Portrait of a Graduate and College & Career Pathways can be found on our district website.
We look forward to working with your future Falcon during the coming weeks! Please reach out to Ms. Meagan Halphin, Staley’s & Career Facilitator, at meagan.halphin@nkcschools.org with any questions.
