Parent/Guardian Involvement
- Site Council - Provide input on school improvement plans. We will discuss school goals and develop actions to support progress. Meetings will be held once a month with the Principal, Bryan Oelerich.
- DEI - Discuss steps we can take to create an inclusive learning environment for all students. The group will develop ways to celebrate diversity and ensure equity proactively. Meetings will be held once a month.
- ASEF - Our volunteer-based, non-profit charitable organization committed to augmenting the educational excellence in the Ayer Shirley Regional School District (ASRSD) by providing additional funds and resources via private and corporate donations.
- PTO - a parent-teacher organization that provides support to the Lura A White Elementary School and the Ayer-Shirley Middle School. The ASPTO aims to provide family activities and fun while raising funds to help defray costs of things such as special assemblies, school trips, and after school enrichment clubs.
New Trees!
- You may notice a dozen new trees have been added to the property!
- Devens Enterprise Commission contributed them in coordination with Shirley Public Works
- They are part of a wider effort to increase environmental literacy and offer an opportunity for students to participate in real field science and take action on climate change
- We can also enjoy the aesthetic and mental health benefits.
- The Devens Enterprise Commission, Town of Ayer, MassDevlopment, Town of Shirley, and the ADRSD School Committee and Administration, and Middle School teachers are worked together to make this happen.
- Special shout out to Beth Suedmeyer, Associate Planner with Devens Enterprise Commission, for her work coordinating all of these organizations!
- We look forward to continuing this partnership with another project on the horizon!
ASRSD Handbook
Our ASRSD Handbook has been updated this summer. We will be sending it out to families following its approved by the ASRSD School Committee. It will be sent out shortly in a separate communication.
Summer Reading Lists
We hope you're having a wonderful summer and spending some of you downtime reading. Our goal is to have students read at least one book over the summer - more if they so choose!
We have provided a “menu” to help you make choices, however, you are not limited to this list. We encourage you to read whatever interests you! Great places to check out books are the Ayer and Shirley town libraries, as they will also have great recommendations for you! You could also borrow ebooks and download audio books - the links are here: EBooks & Audiobooks - School Library and from Public Libraries. One more thing - you will notice Lexile levels to the right of each book along with a key at the bottom of the page. These Lexiles serve to help students select books that match their reading ability.
