PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Tena koutou Parents and Whanau

Thank you to all of the parents who have booked an appointment for the Learning Discussion due to take place on Monday and Tuesday this week. This is a very important aspect of our school as we forge relationships together and work as a team for the benefit of your child/ren.

This is also a reminder that the Tuesday after the Easter Weekend is a school holiday. The Easter Tuesday is always a school holiday if the Easter Weekend is during term time. As a matter of interest for our families, this holiday is legislated by government.

Teacher Only Day

We will be having a Teacher Only Day on Friday 16 April to continue working on the review and evaluation of our curriculum. This means that there is no school for the children of our school as our teachers get to work on this important development.

Covid 19 / Coronavirus

As always anyone who is unwell should not be at school.

If your child has a cough or a cold they must not be sent to school. They need to be kept at home until they have recovered completely. We are having to phone an increasing number of parents to pick their child up because they are unwell.

If you have a particular concern about your child, you can contact Healthline at 0800 611 116 or their GP for medical advice.

SCHOOL APP

Please download this app to your phone as it will become one of the important parts of our emergency contact procedure should we ever need to use it.

Classroom Round Ups

Rm 1 Mrs Johnson

Thank you to all the parents who have made an appointment for our Learning Discussions. We have some tired little souls in Room 1 and I think they are all ready for the extra long weekend. Our Letterland work is j, k and w. Our daily focus is to use the letter sounds that the children know to work out 3 letter words and to use these sounds to write the sounds they can hear in words too. We have a new sight word that we need to know by heart by the end of the each week - referred to as a heart word♥. This week the word is like. We will conclude this week with a day of Easter Activities on Thursday.Wishing you all a very Happy Easter with family and friends.

Rm 2 Miss Green

We are so ready for Easter weekend this weekend. We have some very tired kiddos. What a term it has been. So much learning, fun, creating, exploring and play has been going on. Can’t believe we are nearly at the end of term 1. Looking forward to meeting with parents this week to share your child’s learning and goals with you. If you haven’t booked a time please do so. If the set times/ days do not work for you and you’d still like to see me, flick me a seesaw message and we can arrange another time that works for you. Last week our shared book was Goldilocks and the three bears. We finished up with a retelling activity where children got together with a buddy to retell and the story in sequence of events. Such a great activity to get kids thinking about sorting ideas in the order that they happen. We then decided to get into character and become Goldilocks. We made some honey and maple syrup porridge and got to eat it all up just like Goldilocks did with Baby Bear’s porridge when she went to the three bears house. Some children loved it, others were not a fan. Maths this week we are practising forming numbers correctly and before and after numbers to 20. It’s important children know and recognise these instantly.

Rm 3 Miss Swan

As we head into busy week 9, I am looking forward to catching up with all parents and whānau at our learning discussions on Monday and Tuesday afternoon. I know that the children in Room 3 are looking forward to sharing with you what we have been learning.

Writing: We are focusing this week on moments in time and looking closely at writing a variety of recounts ensuring we have remembered to put our ideas in the order they have happened.

Reading: The majority of our reading group levels have changed and readers coming home will reflect this. Our morning routine of reading again before school is well established now with all students remembering to do this last week. Well done!

Maths: We continue our addition and subtraction work using number lines and fine tuning our knowledge of patterns with teen numbers.

Reminders for the week: Please remember to bring along your sunhat everyday. It is still very hot during morning tea and lunchtime. Sue Ashman will be in Room 3 on Thursday this week.

Please remember you can contact me through mswan@tearohaprimary.school.nz or via Seesaw. I hope you all have a safe and happy Easter break!

Rm 5 Miss Entwisle

In Writing, we have been learning how to work with a buddy and take turns to record ideas in a shared story. For ICT (Information, Communication Technology) we are learning how to publish our work, change font colours and insert photos. Mathematics this week has a focus on numbers and how to make and break them. This is the final week for swimming. It would be great to see as many students as possible using the pool while it is still open. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact Miss Entwisle via the school office: 078848803; email: mentwisle@tearohaprimary.school.nz or through the Seesaw message function.

Rm 6 Mrs Bankier

This week we are going to be starting to learn about ANZAC, this will be our reading and writing topic until the end of the term.

We are also starting to learn about fractions. We will be learning about how fractions are represented and written. How to add fractions together and when we use fractions in everyday life.

This is the last week of swimming for the term.

I wish you all a happy Easter and time to enjoy with Family and Friends.

Rm 7 Mrs Paul

In writing this week we will be finishing off our Moment in Time writing. We have been looking closely at how to add adjectives in order to make our writing more exciting. This week we will also work on giving feedback to each other in our quest to improve what we do.

In Maths our focus will be word problems- a chance to use all the strategies we have learnt in a creative way. Often the hardest thing for children is to work out which strategy they need to use. We have started our timetable and your child should be learning these each night. If you haven't seen them, please ask them about it.

In writing their will be a focus on retelling in order, self correcting and collecting information depending on which group your child is in and their need.

We kick off the week with another action packed day of workshops. These were a great hit last week and I am sure today's learning will be equally as fun and inspiring.
