Message from the Principal

Hello Willow Families,

We recognize we are sending a second newsletter this week, but have some important information that we need to get out. Please see the updates below. The newest additions to the newsletter are at the top of the list.

Thank you and have a great weekend,

Andrew Kappel

Meeting with Principals for those impacted by boundary changes

On Monday May 23rd we will be hosting a meeting with all Middle School Principals to answer questions for those who have students attending different buildings next year. Please join us at 6pm for a conversation with all Middle School Principals, followed by a break out group with your students school staff for next year. Please look for an email on Monday for information on how to join this virtual event.

iPad Turn-in and Locker Clean-out

Students will be turning their iPads in on Tuesday, May 31st in Advisory. At this time, students will need to turn in their school iPads, case, charging block, and cord. If students are missing their charging cord and brick these items can be purchased for the following from the school.

- iPad Case - $30

- Charging Brick - $4

- Charging Cord - $1

Locker Clean-out will also be taking place the last week of school. Students will be cleaning out lockers on Wednesday and Thursday of the last week of school with their grade levels. Please help limit the amount of items that are coming back to the building after this point.

End of year student celebrations

As we approach the last day of school, we are preparing for some great fun. We are asking for your help so that we can celebrate our students as they progress to the next grade, whether that be here at Willow Creek or at a new school. We are so thankful for everything they bring to our lives and are proud of them.

We are reaching for the stars here and are happy with any donation so we can offer prizes for our building-wide games such as Bingo, Minute to Win It, and Name that Tune in addition to smaller games happening within their classrooms. Here is a link to the Sign Up Genius:

Please note there are slots for different categories: $5 Gift Cards, Boxes of Candy, Gatorade/Beverages, Random Prizes, Large Bags of Candy, Boxes of Chips - Variety Pack, and Mayo Spartan Wear. If you are donating Mayo Spartan Wear, you need to visit the Spartan Shack. You may search for these items by category by using the search box at the top if you don't want to scroll through the pages. With this in mind, we offered up enough slots for each so that guardians have a choice, which is why there are so many pages. Any prize not used this year will be used next year as a part of our PBIS School Rewards, so they will be used to celebrate our kids this coming year if prizes are leftover.

Please review the available slots below and click on the button to sign up. If you are supplying food, you may either send it with your student to school by Wednesday, June 1, 2022 or drop it off. This provides us with time to get them sorted and to the classroom teachers by Friday, June 3. Any prizes left over will be used to supply our PBIS School Store for the next year. Finally, we add a lot of slots so that you have options. Thank you!

Please drop off any donations at the main office. Thank you again for your generosity!

Honors Options Classes

For the 22-23 school year WC will be moving from honors classes to honors option classes. In an honors option class, students taking the class as an honors class, are in the same room as students who are not taking it has an honors class. Besides that, the honors and honors option classes are the same. Next year, students in 7th and 8th grade will be able to sign up for honors option classes in October, after they get a chance to experience the content. We are hoping that this shift will allow for more access to honors materials for students and allow students to take more that 1 or 2 classes in the honors format.

Willow Creek Resource Room and Backpack Program

Please see the information below from our School Social Worker Team about two wonderful programs that are available to help out families. Our School Social Workers can be reached using the email addresses found at the bottom of this newsletter.

Drop-off and Pick-up

Please click the button below for the drop-off and pick-up procedures for students at the beginning and end of the day.

Willow Creek Building hours

Students can enter the building at 8:05am. Please do not drop students off prior to this time as we have limited supervision earlier than this time. Students are released at 3:00pm and need to either utilize district transportation, or be picked up unless they have a pre-planned afterschool activity.

HyVee Cash 4 Students

HyVee will again be donating to our schools this year. Please collect your receipts and turn them in at the main office of Willow Creek. At the end of the year we submit the receipts to HyVee and they issue funds that can be used for students at Willow Creek. Due by May 27th!
