In 2008 she published her best selling book "The Hunger Games", " The Hunger Games" turned into a trilogy. The trilogy is now being made into three major motion pictures which is the first of Suzanne`s Collins books to do so.

Main Characters

Katniss Everdeen: Katniss is a protagonist and a leader in the book. She live in the 12th district which is a district that has a poor quality of life and is motivated to win because she promised her sister she would return. Katniss story starts when she decides to take her sisters place after she is chosen to compete in the hunger games. Katniss builds a strong relationship with Peeta through out the training for and during the hunger games.

Peeta Mallark: Peeta is the other child picked from district 12 to compete in the hunger games. He meets the other main character Katniss when he is traveling to compete in the hunger games. Peeta and Katniss develope a romantic relationship and work together to prepare for the hunger games.

Rue: Rue is one of the smallest girls in the competition but she has other talents that will help her in natural environments. She meet Katniss in the capital, Katniss trys to be Rue care taker because she is so out matched.

Cato: Cato is a competitor from district 2, his district trains their children for this competition all their life. Cato is a the biggest threat to Katniss ans Peeta.

Main Confict

The main conflict in The Hunger Games is who is going to survive, in the hunger games there can only be one winner and one survivor. This is a conflict between Katniss and their government because they are forcing her to compete in the hunger games, this is a "Man V.S Society" conflict. The "Man V.S Self" is Katniss cares about Peeta and doesn't know if she can bring her self to kill him to save herself.

Teaser

Every year to remind the people of Panem of the civil war that was lost by the people each of the 13 districts have to offer two randomly selected children ages 12-18, one boy and one girl to compete in the hunger games. The hunger games are a yearly event where the children chosen fight to the death. But this year Katniss from district 12 offers herself to save her sister from competing, Katniss developed a relationship with the other competitor from district 12 Peeta. The question is, who will sacrifice them self to save the other?

Passage

" "Where's lover boy? Oh, I see. You're gonna help him, right? Well, that's sweet. You know, its to bad you couldn't help your little friend. That little girl. What was her name again? Rue? Well, we killed her and now we're gonna kill you. " ~Clove~

This passage shows the "protector" relationship between Rue and Katniss, this is what makes it so hard to decide who will survives. This is example of how much more prepared for the competition the other districts than district 12. Katniss weakness is also exposed, her weakness is that she cares about others.

Will you enjoy this book

A person who enjoys an action and adventure book with characters you can root for The Hunger Games is a book you should read. The characters get into dangerous and exciting situation but you care about them because the author does a good job at understanding why it is so important that they should win and why is is impossible to decide who should survive. I would recommend that anybody 12 and up should read this book if they like strong characters and adventures.

Rating

I give The Hunger Games four out of six stars because it was exciting and made you care about the characters but some parts dragged on and a lot of the same adjective are used over and over. But overall it kept me interested because you didn't know who was going to sacrifice them self's to save the other.
