Science
Do you know how fun science can be when you get creative?
In 3M, we have been doing alot of creative experiments. Let us tell you all about our experiments that we have been doing.
We made different types of systems. One experiment 3M did was the Wheel and Axle system. Another was the top. 3M made different designs of tops using a Wheel and Axle.
Another experiment 3M did was the Twirly Birds system. We each made an original Twirly Bird. Then we added changes and tested them to see how the changed affected the twirly bird. Here are some of them:
Add Weight
Trim Body
Trim Wings
Those were some of the options.
We also did some experiments with magnetic forces. We saw a floating paperclip because of the magnetic field. First we put a paperclip on a string. Next we put a magnet on a chair leg. Then we put the paperclip on the magnet. We slowly pulled the paperclip away and it was floating because and the magnetic force were balanced. Those are just some things 3M did in science this winter. We had a lot of fun.

Valentine's Party
Were you excited for Valentines Day? Well, we were excited because we had a Valentine party. We had 4 stations cookie making, dice game, sock game, and the race. You might be thinking what is the sock game? You need a bag of Hershey Kisses, and socks. You need a partner up to 3 people in a group. You can have unlimited groups. The object of the game is to unwrap Hershey kisses with socks on your hands. And you need to unwrap 4 Hershey Kisses before any of the other groups do.
We also did the dice game. Here is how you play. You get get candy and put it in the middle. You need to have a dice.If you roll a 1 you get 1 candy. If you roll 2 you get 2 pieces of candy. If you roll a 3 you have to skip a turn. If you roll 4 then you pick 1 candy. If you roll a 5 you take 2 from another player. And that is how you play the dice game.
Cookie making might sound simple but there were many choices so that is what it made it a little bit tricky to choose. We had a plain cookie that was shaped like a heart for Valentine’s Day. Then you had a choice of icing. The choices were chocolate and vanilla. And we had toppings for example, we had m&m’s and we had sprinkles too. On the side we had pretzels. We had a mom there that was supervising.
You might be thinking it is very hard to carry things to place to place. That is what we did in the race. The race is a lot like carrying an egg but with a spoon but with sweet tarts. If you drop a sweet tart then you need to pick it up. You need four buckets and you have to fill the other bucket across the hall. We had a great time at the party!

Opinion Writing
3M just finished our opinion writing unit.Opinion writing is writing about what your feelings are about something and you are trying to convince someone. For example, we wanted to convince Mr. Bissinger that we should be able to sit with other 3rd grade classes during lunch. We wrote a letter to Mr. B with convincing words, reasons, and examples. One of our reasons was some of our friends in 2nd grade are not in our class this year. We don’t get to see them a lot so it would be nice to talk to them during lunch. We gave him examples like Harrison had a friend Will who was his neighbor and then he moved and he was in another class for 3rd grade. He doesn’t get to see him much. Another reason we should be able to sit with other classes at lunch so we can catch up with old friends and make new friends. We also told him that someone is alone we could sit with them but we couldn't do that if they are in another class. Then we would feel bad for them. Mr. B came to our classroom and said he had good news. He said that we could sit with other 3rd grade classes on Thursdays. It’s like Non-Fiction but you're not teaching your convincing.
Opinion writing helps change people's mind like we did with Mr. Bissinger. People wrote about many different topics. For example, Harrison a student in 3M, He wrote about "Haddonfield Should Have Different Wrestling Rooms". Reid, another kid in 3M wrote about how 3rd and 4th grade should be a safety. He also did “People Should Appreciate Technology.” More people will appreciate technology after they read the letter and Haddonfield might get different wrestling rooms. Opinion writing can change people’s minds.

Community Meeting Strings
The A.P.R was filled with music at the start of our January community meeting. E.H strings students performed Beguine and Katie's Waltz. In front of the whole school 3rd grade students were playing violins, violas and cellos. Violas are similar to violins. Cellos are much bigger and cellos sound even lower. There were only 4 cellos and 3 violas the rest were violins. It sound like a great concert. It was different because there were just strings. Everyone sounded great. But some people were nervous on stage. You had to wear white and black. Everybody look so good. We were all proud of ourselves of all the hard work put in to it.

Nonfiction Reading
Did you ever read nonfiction? If so here are some tips to make you awesomely good at reading nonfiction!
Rev Up Your Mind
You have to rev up your mind before you read any kind of book. How you do that is, you could read the back blurb then you know what you will be reading about. Another way to rev up your mind is to look at the pictures. That will help you because you could see what your going to be reading about without having to read and take a long time. Then you can start READING!!
Main Idea
First you should focus on the main idea, that is what the book is mostly about. After you read a little bit, you stop and ask what were all the details about? You can look at the headings or look for pop out sentences to help you. Now you have figured out the main idea!!!!
Remembering Info
Post-its can help you remember info because you can write it down and you might forget about it but all the info will still be right where you left it. Another reason post-its are helpful tools in biography reading is that they can stick to your paper so you don’t lose them. YAY!
Read Biographies Like A Story
You know how a biography gives you info? Well, you still read it like a story. How you still read it story, is you figure out the character traits and you see if your characters had any problems in their life. If so, you can either predict or just keep reading to find the solution!
Hope our tips make you a better reader!

P.E. Bowling
Crash! Bam! Strike! Welcome to Lizzy Lanes. This is how to bowl. You have to hold your hands in the holes in the bowling ball. After that you have to push your arm toward the pins and let go. It will most likely go forward and hit the pins if you have a hard push on it. This is a picture of how you hold it.
If you get a strike you get the next two rolls with your score but plus ten. If you get a spare you only get the next roll with your score but + ten.
It is good if you get a strike or a spare BUT it is really hard .
This game is like the carnival game that there are clowns and you get a ball and knock them down the clowns are the pins and the bowling ball are the pins.

Area and Perimeter
When do you use area and perimeter? We will teach you right now.
You use area for putting in tiles in your bathroom. You use perimeter when you are putting a border on a bulletin board. If you were to paint a wall you would use area. If you were to put in a boarder it would be perimeter. Perimeter is the outside of a shape to find the perimeter you have to add up all the sides and that is how you find perimeter. This is how perimeter works. If you have a wall that is 5 ft on each side , what is the distance around the shape 5+5+5+5=20 so your perimeter is 20 ft around the shape. If your garden is a 10 by 9 ft you have to find the perimeter to find the fencing you need. 9+9=18 10+10=20 and 20+18 = 38 38 ft of fencing is your answer.
At first it is easy but it gets harder as you go go Area is the inside of a shape to find area you have to multiply length x width to get the answer Here is how you do area. First you look at the sides then you do length x width so 5x5=25 square ft. sometimes you need to figure out the missing side.
How do you find area in an irregular shape? First you make two squares or rectangles out of the irregular shape. Then you find the area of both shapes. After that you add both up and then you are done.

R.A.C.E.S.
Have you ever heard of r.a.c.e.s?
Not the one on a track! Well if you haven’t this is what one is,
The R stands for restate the question. It means cross off the question word. Reword the question then turn it into a statement.
The A stands for answer the question, answer all parts of the question, what is being asked.
The C stands for cite evidence from the text to support your answer.
The E stands for explain how you know, explain how the evidence supports your answers add your thinking.
And the S stands for sum it all up, Restate the questions and write a conclusion!!!
A good thing about R.A.C.E.S is it will help you get more than one sentence on the page when answering a question..It will help you on tests and you can get all your ideas down. It will help you write and answer questions.

Field Trip Trenton State House
Do you know where the state government is located? We know! We took a big yellow bus there. The State House is a big building in Trenton, the capital of New Jersey.
Have you ever been to a state museum well we have. They had a big dinosaur skull and fossils that looked so cool. We also saw a dugout canoe. It's a boat that the Lenape used. We saw Lenape clothes and they looked very different than ours.
The New Jersey state house is where the governor works and laws are made. We went into the different rooms 1 room is where the make laws called the Senate and General Assembly.
We also did make a law where we read a paper and discussed it. The paper was a bill. A bill is an idea for a new law. We read it, debated about it, and voted. The bill was about banning metal bats because they thought they were to dangerous.

Noontime Enrichment is during your lunch and recess. They have a bunch of different classes you can take! But we are only writing about two, arts and crafts. Also, some hip Hop!
We are starting with arts and crafts. The first thing in arts and crafts we chose crystals! We will tell you how we made them! First,we had a glass jar filled with water and borax. We added pipe cleaners, and twist and tied them into a lovely heart! Then because of the chemical reaction it turned it into crystals!and then we left our crystals out for about 24 hours. After that you take them out and lay them on a paper towel. Soon there dry and they turn into a beautiful crystal!
Now we are going to tell you about some hip hop. Hip hop is a really fun activity and dance! During hip hop NE you do stuff like freeze dance and Kids Bop dances. Today, we are only talking about freeze dance, if you don’t know what freeze dance is read on! :)
It is dancing! You play cool music and dance along to the beat, ooh a ooh ooh a a a
And when the music stops you freeze!!!! But if you don't freeze your out, the last one standing wins!
