Peek of the Week
for Eagle Creek - Nov 12
Goal
Focus on Key Ideas and Details throughout the school.
Literature and Informational Text
Standard 1: Read closely to determine what the text says explicitly and to make logical inferences from it; cite specific textual evidence when writing or speaking to support conclusions drawn from the text.
Standard 2: Determine central ideas or themes of a text and analyze their development; summarize the key supporting details and ideas.
Standard 3: Analyze how and why individuals, events, and ideas develop and interact over the course of a text.
Resource with resources cited - looks promising, I haven't played with it a whole lot.
District and School Vision
Eagle Creek Vision: The purpose of our school is to ensure that ALL students learn at high levels in a safe and respectful environment.
Eagle Creek Do We Want to be a Professional Learning Community?
We achieve this by learning together about the best practice proven to increase student learning, applying what we have learned, and using evidence of student learning to make decisions and revisions in practice to help even more students learn at higher levels.
A focus on learning is the purpose of our school. Are we willing to revise or discontinue actions that fail to increase student learning?

Second Chance Breakfast
Second Chance Breakfast is one more way to get food to our students. It is meant for any student that missed breakfast for any reason. If students choose to go outside and play in the morning, missing breakfast in the cafeteria, and choose to eat 2nd chance breakfast, that’s OK. We need students to run around and play in the morning AND we need them to eat. Some of our tough kids choose to play in the morning and then are being refused 2nd chance breakfast because they missed their chance at breakfast in the cafeteria; therefore they will be distracted by a hungry tummy. I know we all know kids learn and pay attention more when they have eaten. Please do not make getting breakfast in a student’s stomach a power struggle. Let’s do what we know is right for kids and allow them to get food whether it is in the cafeteria or for 2nd Chance Breakfast. Please see Josie if you want to brainstorm ways to do this for your students. #kidsdeserveit. #eaglecreekrocks. #foodfuelslearning.
Letters for the Military
They are also collecting donations - see their wishlist on Amazon:

Thanks again!

You can't make this stuff up
While most students were wishing for things like world peace, fairness, an end to drugs, etc., one of my students had a bigger wish that was near and dear to his heart. Oddly enough, his wish may actually come true according to the Sunday edition of the Star Tribune.
