Principal Message
GREAT START TO A GREAT YEAR – Thank you to families for everything you’ve done to make the transition back into school a smooth one for your children. We so appreciate the time it takes to get families back into the routine of school.
Our students work so hard each and every day, learning skills that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. We strive to develop life-long learners who will continue their education beyond elementary, middle, & high school. Each morning we remind students of the high expectations we have for them by starting the day with a chant - "Brookdale students are... On time, every day, ready to learn" and "Brookdale Bobcats are... Successful!" Believing that our students are capable of all things is the Brookdale way.
Remember, you can view our school newsletter (comes out twice a month) and other important information on the school website. Go to www.fpschools.org, under schools Brookdale will be listed. You can also find transportation and lunch information online. Please keep our website in your favorites. Our goal is to keep this up to date throughout the school year.
Thanks for all you do for your children!

Bobcat Store
Every couple of weeks, students will have to opportunity to spend their bucks at the Bobcat Store. Students can purchase small tokens (erasers, pencils, candy) or save their bucks for more expensive things like pizza with the principal, extra recess. They can also purchase moments. Moments are things like spraying administration with silly string, shooting baskets with a former teacher or having Mrs. Holman die her hair for a day.
There is a lot of buzz around school and our kiddos are super excited to earn their bucks!! And, we are seeing a positive outcome with behavior!

STUDENT ABSENCES
In order to assure your child's safety, please call the school office at 253-298-3100 if your child is ill or unable to attend school. You can call and leave a message on our 24-hour voice mail if it is before school hours. If your child is not in attendance, and we do not receive a call from you by 10:05 a.m, we will attempt to call you to confirm the reason for the absence. Your phone call saves time for the office and is greatly appreciated!
If you are wondering whether or not your child is too sick to attend school, please refer to the link below or call 253-298-3099.
PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN GRADES K -2
Please pack an extra pair of clothes, including underwear, socks, and pants in your child’s backpack. Accidents do happen and we would like to be prepared. It is nice when a child can wear a pair of his or her own pants. The health room has a very limited supply of clothing. If your child does borrow clothing from the health room, please return the clothing items to the school after it is washed.

CONFERENCES ARE COMING
As you may know, Student Led Conferences (SLCs) are just around the corner. This is an excellent opportunity for teachers, students, and their families to talk about the coming year. Teachers will have information to share and students will be sharing their goals. Very soon, you will be receiving a link to sign up for a conference time from your child's teacher. Please be sure to click on the link right away in order to secure a time for your conference. School will be dismissed Tuesday - Friday, Oct. 4 – 7 at 12:35 pm. Students will be served a sack lunch before they leave each day. Please be sure that you have made plans for your student(s) for these early dismissal days.

BUS PROCEDURES
We have a very helpful transportation department; if you have any questions, issues about something that happened on the bus or at the bus stop, or concerns about a late bus, please call the transportation office directly at 253-298-3865. To cut down on the number of calls received in the office daily we are asking that if you wish for your child to ride a bus other than the one they normally ride, get off at a bus stop other than their normal stop, to be a parent pick-up, you must send a note. Without a note, we will not allow students to change their regular bus, bus stop, or end of the day routine.
Sign Up for the Bus Bulletin
Would you like to know when your student’s bus is going to be late or what is happening?
Once you know your child's route, you should consider signing up for bus route notifications using Bus Bulletin. Bus Bulletin will send you text messages to your cell phone with real-time updates on your child's route. For instance, if your child's route is running late, Bus Bulletin will let you know.
How to sign-up to use Bus Bulletin:
- Go to the website http://busbulletin.com/parents/ . Click on “Sign In”, click on "Register Here," and answer the simple prompts. You will provide your name, your email address, a password, and select Franklin Pierce Schools. Then enter the code on the screen, accept the rules of use, and finally click on Submit.
- You will then be asked to select the route, which is written in code:
- The first two numbers are the ROUTE NUMBER, and the letters are the SCHOOL abbreviation:
- Preschool: HDS for Head Start and ELC
- Primary: BD, CA, CH, CO, ELM, HA, JS, MD
- Secondary: FMS, FPHS, KMS, WHS, GATES
- Example: 07BD is route 7, Brookdale Elementary School.
IMPORTANT SCHOOL REMINDERS
STUDENT EARLY DISMISSAL – If your child has an appointment and is leaving before the end of the school day, please make sure you send a note that morning letting the teacher and the office know. Also, please allow enough time for pick up. To preserve precious class time, we do not call students to the office until you have checked them out in person (remember your ID).
SCHEDULE CHANGES - The end of the day at Brookdale is very hectic. If you forgot to send a note in the morning (which is preferred) and need to call the school with a change to your child’s schedule, please do so before 3:15 p.m. After 3:15 the office is busy assisting students and parents and will not be able to answer your call or get a message to a student before they leave for the day. All end of the day schedule changes must be made through the office, not with the classroom teacher. Thank you!
UPDATE CONTACT INFORMATION - If any of your information has changed (address, contact info., email address, etc.) please contact the office right away. This year more than ever, it will be important to have the most current information. Also, let us know what your preferred method of contact is - phone, email, text. You can reach the office at 253.298.3100.
