Notes from the music room:
Some exciting events will be here before you know it so please mark your calendar.
March 31, 2020 The Fifth Grade will be presenting: “Seussical” the Musical at 5:30 p.m. in the school gym.
May 20, 2020 will be our annual Evening of the Arts during which our performing Arts groups will be presenting selections. T- Shirt order forms for World Drummers and Singsation were sent home and are due back at the end of January.
Band students may now earn classroom economy $ if they are prepared with their instruments , lesson book and 3 selections for their lessons! Students should be practicing at least 10 minutes 5 x a week.
Fourth grade students are making great progress on their ukuleles and many have reported that they got their own ukulele to practice on at home. I am happy to tune them at any time, just send the instrument into class with your child on music day.
Kindergarten students can look forward to a May performance of “The Three Piggy Opera,” more information will be sent home regarding this performance.
Ask your child to ask Alexa to play some of the composers we’ve studied so far this year.

Third Grade News
Third Grade just finished up with our Weather Hazards Unit! We worked so hard on learning about all the different climate zones and the characteristics of each. Students then chose a disaster weather and become experts on their choice! They researched the characteristics of their weather hazard and the unique dangers it may present. Students then had to use their research to determine ways to prepare for their weather, how to stay safe during their weather hazard and then how to deal with the damage that has been caused. After all of our research was done, we were given the challenge of creating a shelter for our mascot Pawlie in case he was caught in this weather. We had so much fun learning about all of this dangerous weather and how to stay safe! We used legos to create a 3D model of our shelter and used the DoINK Green Screen app to place our shelter into the disaster!
We are now starting our second unit in Science and exploring the world of forces! We started off by creating balances with beam boards and fulcrums and analyzing the effect gravity has positions of objects! We can’t wait to start looking at Newton’s Laws of Motions and magnetic forces!
Girl's on the Run
This past fall LDS had the first season of Girl's on the Run. Twenty of our 3rd through 5th grade students met each week to build their foundation, self esteem, relationships and develop goals as they live a healthy lifestyle. The season came to a culminating completion as they ran a 5k along with almost 2000 girls from other chapters throughout the state. We would like to bring the program back this spring, as we had such a positive response and interest. This is not a PTO event, but rather a national organization that offers our young ladies a truly unique experience. In order for this to take off we need two volunteers/coaches who would be willing to run it. It runs 2 days a week for 10 weeks. Please note, you do NOT have to be a runner to be part of this club as a participant or coach. The organization gives you the training, materials and lessons for each week. The lessons are the most powerful part. In order to allow this to take off, we need two willing coaches, as they run the club simultaneously. If you are interested, or have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Benbrook.
Thank you!
PTO Adopt a Class
Happy New Year!!! We hope everyone had an amazing holiday and break!
We are excited to launch our Adopt A Classroom!! Please see the link below for “Adopt A Classroom”. From this page you will be able to click on and view each individual teachers wish list for their classroom through signup genius.
Once you are in a teachers classroom on signup genius, you have the ability to click on the link for a particular item. This link is located directly under the teachers name and it will bring you to the store (like amazon) where you may purchase the items you wish. We also ask that you click the “sign up” button below the list of items, on signup genius, so that everyone knows what is still available for each teacher. If you choose to purchase the products at a different store, that is fine too…we just ask that you make sure to check off the “sign up” button for tracking of the products.
Some have reached out about just donating money towards the items needed for the classroom OR going in as a group for a bigger item…this is also amazing. If you would prefer to do this please send your money in an envelope (or via Venmo to @LauraDonovan-PTO) to the attention of "Pia Mariconda-Adopt a Classroom” along with your name AND the name of the teachers classroom you are donating to. We will then make sure your donation goes towards the purchase of items needed for the classroom of your choice.
Please feel free to contact either Pia Mariconda or Vita Briggs with any questions, concerns or suggestions. We are here to help in anyway.
We cannot thank you enough for your continued support and generosity. YOU are a big part of what makes our school and community one of the best around! We are extremely grateful for all of you!!
Thank you,
The PTO
