Dear parents,

Please do not request that your child be given classwork or permitted to take an exam early due to pleasure trips or vacations. Such absences are considered unexcused. After returning from said trip, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain missed assignments, tests, etc., and he/she will be required to complete those assignments within a reasonable period of time designated by the teacher. If the assignments, tests, etc., are not completed within the designated period of time, the student will receive a “zero” on the missed work.

We are coming upon the holidays and would like to ask for your assistance. Please work with your teachers and Room parents to coordinate treats for the students. We want them to recognize the seasons and focus on the reasons and traditions of the holidays more than focus on food. Therefore, treats/snacks will be scaled down to meet the classroom needs to avoid excess. You guys are kind and generous, but excess food is like throwing money away and I would like to avoid that.

In addition, some activities will be scheduled to allow all parents to participate and some may be limited in scope. Please bear with us we still navigate the COVID-19 pandemic convoluted rules.

Thank you,

Chris Collins

ALL SAINTS DAY MASS - NOVEMBER 1ST

Dear Parents,

We would like to invite all of our students in Pre-Kindergarten through 7th grade to dress as a favorite saint for our All Saints Day Celebration of the Eucharist on Monday, November 1, 2021. Students in grades Pre K 4, K, 1, 2, 3, 6, & 7 will attend Mass at 8:30am. Students in grades 4 and 5 will attend Mass at 10:15am.

If you choose for your child to participate, which is completely optional, we ask that costumes be very simple. An example is a tunic which can easily be placed over the regular uniform, with perhaps a veil or cowl. We want to be a source of reverence and not distraction. A card identifying the saint should be pinned to the costume or worn as a small placard around the neck.

Costumes may be worn (over the regular uniform) to school that morning. Students in costume will be asked to stand in place and be recognized during Mass. All costumes are removed in the classroom after Mass, so please send a bag for the costume to be carried home.

Thank you for considering this option on a wonderful holy day. It adds great joy to our celebration and reminds us all that the purpose of Halloween (All Hallows’ Eve), is that it is the night before we celebrate the saints! It is a reminder that we are not home yet! We are all aiming for eternal life in heaven.

If you have any questions, please contact me at aenright@saintmm.org.

In Christ,

Mrs. Riviere, New Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion

Recently Fr. Ed asked SMM teachers to take training to become Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion so that they can participate in the school Masses. Mrs. Elaine Riviere, 2nd grade teacher, was the first to take the training. At school Mass this morning, Fr. Ed commissioned her to be an Extraordinary Minister. It was so beautiful that her students, the SMM student body, and her colleagues were there to see it.

MISS LISA'S ART GALLERY

From time to time, we will feature artwork from our talented students in the Charger Chronicles. Our wonderful Art Teacher, Lisa Ramirez, tells me that there will be more coming soon.

This week's featured artwork is from Charlie Krennerich in K-2. It's a pumpkin by night ... looks like we have a budding Van Gogh!

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE GNOME

Ms. Bauer and Mr. Perrier are heading up a new SMM club which was suggested by some of our 7th graders. The name is "Gardening Gnomes." Students in grades 5 - 7 are invited to participate. The club will meet about twice a month. Their mission will be to freshen up and beautify the campus grounds.

Interested students must have their permission slips signed by one of their parents. Permission slips will be distributed in homeroom next Monday and they are due next Friday, November 5. You may also download the permission slip from the link below.

ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE

The Food Drive is a parish/school group service project in which we team with the Good Sams ministry at St. Luke’s to provide meals for the hungry and needy in our community. Our SMM school families donate food items assigned by homerooms. The Mission Club will collect items from homerooms and the High School Youth Group will sort the items and place in boxes. Donations from SMM provide a box of several meals for 25 families in our community. We will collect donations from November 7 - 18.

Please see the graphic below for homeroom assignments. Thank you for your generosity.

YEAH!!! The Fair T-Shirts Are Finally In!

The Fair T-shirts are in. The Fair Committee needs a day to sort them. We will distribute them after school on Monday. We are finalizing the details of how and where this will happen. We will send an email to parents this weekend. Mr. Collins said the fair t-shirts may be worn in lieu of regular spirit shirts on any Spirit Day for the remainder of the year. Good news ... students will be able to wear this year's fair t-shirts to enter the ride area of next year's fair!
