Placerita Jr. High School - March 13th, 2022
This Week at Placerita 3.13.22 / Esta semana en Placerita 3.13.22
Good Evening Placerita Families…
Welcome to the last week of the quarter. Next week we start the final quarter of the year. It is hard to believe that we are already here. Please remind your students that they should take a good look to see if they have any missing work and that they complete it early this week.
Two years ago today (3/13/2020) was when we left school on a Friday and did not return till the end of last March 2021. Tomorrow will be the first day that masks are an optional part of our personal attire. For many of us that marks a moment of freedom from masks that we have been waiting for. Also, many of us will choose to continue to wear masks for a variety of reasons. We have made it very clear in our announcements on MMTV that no one will be making judgements on anyone who chooses not to wear or to wear a mask in class or on campus. I would predict that well over half of our students will continue to wear their masks and even though the requirement is gone, they are still highly recommended. If your student has any issues with someone irritating them about wearing or not wearing let us know so we can help. I think we should be fine.
Normally we do not have many issues with the use of cell phones on campus; however, we have had a few issues recently. This week we are working on strengthening our current policy. We are not banning phones like some schools have but we may have a few adjustments with a strong focus on digital citizenship. We will have more information for you next week.
Hart Counselors will be on campus talking about some of their specialized programs they have this week and they will also be here to select electives for eighth graders very soon as well.
We will be having two minimum days next week on 3/23 and 3/24. This will be our final pair for the year for us to be able to have professional development for staff on those days. We will have block class periods on both those days with three periods on each day.
Our 3 on 3 tournament continues this week with games at lunch. Our first weeks of games went well with lots of great shots going in. Games wrap up next week with the big staff game on 3/25.
Thanks to all our guys that came out for our World Cup Soccer intramural game last week. It was fun to watch and thanks to all the parents that came to watch as well. See group photo below.
That’s it for tonight. Have a great week.
Mr. Turner

Sr. Turner

Students are required to be wearing their IDs all the time they are at school.
There are several reasons that each student is required to wear their IDs during school each day. School Check-in each morning, identification for safety purposes and lunch purchases are a few of the reasons that students will need to have their personal IDs on them at all times just like last year. They will not be required during PE or during time that students are participating in activities where there would be a safety concern like in wood shop.

Hello Placerita Families! We have some very exciting and important news for our community.
The new Student Care Line for Placerita will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems.
If you are a student, parent, or community member with a concern that needs attention from an administrator at Placerita please text us here. You can send a text message to (661) 282-7522. All text messages received will be forwarded to our former Text-A-Tip line. We now have a new reporting system for our students and their families to use to share a concern about another student's well-being. This reporting system is called the Student Care Line.
Over the last several years, the William S. Hart Union High School District has placed an emphasis on student wellness. Knowing that a student who feels emotionally supported is more successful, the District set out to open Wellness Centers on each of our campuses, with the first of those opening in August of 2019. Now the District is looking to expand this effort even further by taking the existing Text-A-Tip line and re-branding it as the new Student Care Line, providing a more comprehensive function.
Text-A-Tip has been used by students, staff and families to report something out of the ordinary. With the goal being “If you see something, say something"; Text-A-Tip was there to report if someone was wanting to hurt themselves or others, or even if there was the possibility of someone committing a crime.
The new Student Care Line will be broadened to include mental health and wellness concerns. If you are struggling or know someone who is struggling, the Student Care Line will make early intervention possible, allowing for small problems to be handled before they become big problems. Cause for concern might be indicated by:
Trouble controlling emotions
Withdrawal from friends and usual activities
Feelings of rejection or solitude
Feeling constantly disrespected
Frequent loss of temper
Increased risk-taking behavior
Talk of suicide or loss of hope
Self-harm
Declining school performance
Students and families are at their best when their emotional well-being is supported. Please join us in our commitment to this effort by using our Student Care Line when you need it.
