Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year
While we understand this is an extremely busy time of year this is an opportunity to recognize each other for the excellent work being done each day with our students.
Support Call and CPI Calls
Support
This means another staff member such as a counselor, ESC, or administrator will respond. This type of call is usually needed when a student is disrupting the learning of others and making it difficult for the teacher to teach and the other students to learn. The responding person will get there soon, but they are not running because a support call means that the students are not in danger and no one is getting hurt.
CPI
This call should be made if you are needing to clear a classroom because either the disruptive student is hurting themselves or they are getting ready to hurt others. In the case of a CPI call a team of people who are certified in CPI will respond quickly. If at any time you feel like the safety of other students is at risk please call for CPI. If for some crazy reason an administrator doesn't show up please make sure someone notifies an administrator that a CPI call has been made and a classroom has been cleared so that we can determine if we need to provide communication to parents.
Administrator
Calling for an administrator can happen for a variety of reasons. Most of the time an administrator is needed to help resolve an issue with students, cover a classroom if a teacher needs to help students, or really for any other reason. We will get there as soon as we can when you need us. If we are in a meeting and it is an emergency just let the office know and they will find us.
As always please do not hesitate to call for help if you need it. If you need help and someone hasn't arrived be sure to call the office back and ask again. There are times when it gets difficult to respond due to other situations taking place in the building, but everyone tries to get there as quickly as possible.
Staff Updates
MAP Data Update
Climate Survey
As you know when buildings fail to meet the goals for the questions buildings are asked to take the survey 4 times a year. As shared in our August meeting that has changed slightly this year. Instead of taking the entire survey staff will just be asked to answer the question/questions that fall below 80%.
Thanks in advance for taking a few minutes to take the survey. We appreciate your feedback and use it to make adjustments in the building. Please let me know if you have any questions about the survey. Results will be shared with staff and the staff comments will be made available for those who choose to read them.
Principal Rounding Meetings
The purpose of rounding meetings is to understand the current reality, gather input, and to be proactive. People should be randomly selected for rounding meetings and the questions should be very general. My goal is to conduct ten rounding meetings before Christmas break. The names have been randomly selected. If you should receive an invitation from me for a rounding meeting it will include the questions that we will discuss. You are also free to bring forth anything else in that meeting.
I plan to do more next semester, but am hoping I can at least do 10 before Christmas. I am looking forward to this time to meet one on one with staff members and gather input for our building.
One Book One School
The books have been ordered as we would like to get each teacher their copy as soon as possible. The book is a Mark Twain nominee so it is a higher reading level than our primary students reading ability. The committee would like to help teachers plan how to use the book in the classroom during our December faculty meeting. During the parent event we plan to have an activity to help parents understand the importance of reading aloud to kids and how to do that in an engaging way.
The committee is looking for people to help serve on the Task Force to help make this night a reading success. Stay tuned for more information about activities and preparation for the event. We already have Harvester Christian Church books to serve a pancake dinner.
