The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term 1 - Issue 2
A word from Mr Broom.
In school, we had our Key Stage Two project launch, where the children 'took off' on Hungate Airways to explore the world! The hall was arranged as a Boeing 747 and the 'passengers' (our wonderful children) were lead off to wonderful sessions based around different cultures of the world. Leeds United have also visited school to deliver some girls football sessions and some of our children have taken part in the local swimming gala.
Personally, I visited the Academies Show at the Excel Arena in London. Miss Mackay also joined me as we started to gain up-to-date knowledge of what working in an academy will mean for our children. We also visited a primary school in the centre of London to learn from their teaching/learning methods. I also visited Northallerton for the second part of the New to North Yorkshire Headteacher Induction. It was great to meet with other relatively new headteachers and share the successes we have had so far this year. If it's one thing I've realised over the past couple of days, we've come a long way since September! ...and there's even more to develop.
Next week we have our school photographs (Monday) and our Year 4s are going to Robin Hood's Bay on Wednesday for two nights. I can't wait to spend time with this super year group!

School Uniform & Snack Reminder
We like to encourage our children to have a healthy break time snack and we provide this through school. However, it seems that some children are bringing snacks into school containing sweets/chocolate. These are not permitted.

Attendance
Congratulations to our Year 4 and 5 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!
Our average attendance this week is a whopping 98.2%. The second time this year that all year groups have been above the magic 96%. A tremendous achievement.
We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.
Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
