Self Discovery in The Lion King
By Julia Jannetto
Description
Another movie that I have seen more times than I can count is The Lion King. After Simba witnesses the death of his king father he is expected to grow up instantly in order to become the next king. This is overwhelming to him and he ultimately decides to leave the community in order to find himself. Once he ventures out into the jungle and makes some friends who help him find himself he returns to take his place. This represents a theme of self-discovery and maturing as he has to balance his personal growth journey against leading his community in a time of need.
Independence in the Jungle
Timone and Pumbaa are Simba's friends displayed here who help him find himself in the jungle.
"I know what I have to do. But going back means I'll have to face my past. I've been running from it for so long." -Simba
