Top 20 Focus: Conflict Resolution
Students will learn that usually when we are experiencing a conflict, there is something we want that is important to us and something the other person wants that is important to him or her. When we take the time to ask and listen to the other person, we create understanding. When we don't listen, we create misunderstandings.
Sometimes in conflicts, we try to win and make the other person lose. This is not a good strategy. In fact, it's a Bottom 80 strategy. Because even if we win and get what we want, we damage the relationship with the other person. A Top 20 strategy is to see if you can create a win for yourself AND the other person. We do this by staying curious. When you listen and know what the other person wants as well as what you want, sometimes you can discover how to get both of those things. That's Top 20.
