💗💟❤️LOVE IS IN THE AIR! ❤️💟💗
The spring semester is an important one for us at schools. And it should be for our community as well, as we work in partnership to ensure our little Wildcats attend the best school possible and receive the best education they can get. As you know, the past couple of years Wheeler has been a B school, thanks to the hard work of the teachers, staff, students and families. Our letter grade comes from the Arizona Department of Education (ADE). They base letter grades in a formula. The formula typically includes our attendance rate, testing scores from different sources, such as standardized, English Language Learning, and the performance of ethnic subgroups and Exceptional Education Students. The scores are analyzed and student proficiencies determine if students grew academically. In the past two years because of COVID-19, ADE has excluded a piece of the formula that measures the students' growth against where they should be in their education trajectory. The trajectory is determined based on 3 years of data collected to make a prediction as to where the individual students should be academically each year.
After our students test this year, ADE will have the 3rd year of data and they will be including this piece of the formula in our schools letter grades again. It is no secret that we are all working hard in partnership to ensure our students are learning and growing at the appropriate rate at Wheeler Elementary. Did you know that that at Wheeler we have our 21st Century Program running, and fully staff for 2 hours after school for tutoring and enrichment? In addition we have over 50 students staying after school for an hour for targeted learning sessions (targeted tutoring), and we have our Native American Students services coming in after school to tutor 2 days per week. We also have our amazing partnership with the YMCA. I am proud that we have this many individuals at our school committed to putting in the time to run these programs for our Wildcats to grow and have fun.
With all of the above, and our small group instruction, centers, and walk to read/math intervention blocks, There is no way that we are not moving the needle for our students. This is a lot of work and it is not just happening by chance, it must be intentional and strategically planned. But we also need your help and support as always. Here is a list of things that make a huge difference on our students' academic achievement, and our school's letter grade for next year:
- Bring your students to school on time. We begin our reading teaching block at 8:00AM, if your student is late, he/she misses this important instruction.
- Please send your students to school every day, unless they are sick.
- Support your students with homework/spelling words when possible.
- Encourage them to log in to ST Math and IXL at home. These are fun learning platforms that they can use to sharpen their skills. Contact us if there are login problems.
- Make sure your students are going to bed at a good time to sleep at least 8 hours per night.
- Help them keep their backpack to decrease the chance of losing assignments.
- Communicate with your students' teacher regarding your students' progress through Class Dojo and Parent/Teacher Conferences, coming up soon.
We appreciate all you do for your little Wildcats and our staff!

Attendance and Punctuality is an Important Skill for Ours Wildcats' Future
This year, there is a new way to call in your students when they are sick and excuse their absences online! The good news is you do not have to make a new account or have a separate app. All you have to do is log in to your Parent Vue account. Please see the document below for instructions!
