As a result of our brainstorming session, the following have been embedded within our Campus Improvement Plan for 2019 - 20. We will continue to monitor progress and adjust throughout the year. As you know, this is a working document, so making changes based on our needs is recommended.
Below you will find the CIP at a Glance by Key Action. Keep in mind, some items may not have been developed during our session, but need to be included for certain purchases to be approved. Each time we spend Title I funds, we need to link the spending to an initiative in our CIP.
Key Action #1 - Improve Student Achievement Across All Areas
What steps will be taken to accomplish Key Action #1?
Use data driven instruction, tools, and resources to improve academic achievement.
Provide on-campus and off-campus opportunities for staff members to attend PD sessions to support the campus and personal instructional needs. (Single Gender, Brain Development, Mental Health, AP/GT, Technology, etc.)
Select, purchase and utilize instructional materials, software, technology, and data analysis tools to support classroom instruction through higher levels of engagement and rigor. (All in Learning, Imagine Learning, Vocabulary.com)
Schedule and facilitate vertical planning sessions to align standards and discuss strategies while assisting teams in working together effectively to ensure they are preparing students for a high level curriculum
Close academic achievement gaps with Econ. Dis, ELL, Sped, and other racial and ethnic groups through targeted interventions before/after school and during advisory
Develop and implement enrichment activities and accelerated curriculum to be used during tutoring and advisory to provide a well-rounded education to all students
Use PLCs and other team meetings to identify and track struggling students in danger of not meeting their growth progress measure as identified by state standards
Key Action #2 - Promote and Increase College Readiness
What steps will be taken to accomplish Key Action #2?
Schedule and provide SAT and ACT workshops for student and teachers to improve college-readiness skills during advisory and select elective classes
Collaborate with post-secondary institutions to promote college-readiness
Increase and promote college-readiness activities. (College Fairs, Kahn Academy, School/Classroom Environment, College Week, Door Decorating Contests, Social Media Highlights, Parent Workshops, etc.)
Review and refine strategies for increasing number of AP classes and enrollment in AP classes to assist more students with learning at a higher level and earning college credit in high school
Key Action #3 - Support Recruitment and Retention
What steps will be taken to accomplish Key Action #3?
Implement a Bridge Program to assist students with their transition to Rangel in middle school through their transition to high school (houses, HS transition night, showing, mentors, etc.)
Develop and use marketing strategies to promote the school's success for recruitment and retention of new students. (open house, parent information meetings, 9th grade transition meeting/spaghetti dinner, posters, flyers to eligible students, social media promotion, etc.)
Create social opportunities for students to mentor, support, and build sisterhood with fellow classmates (Club day, sister circles, My Sister's Keeper, etc..)
Provide increased opportunities for parental involvement including but not limited to parent education classes (9 weeks - semester 1), college information sessions (once a semester), coffee with the principal (last Friday of the month), SBDM (3rd Wednesday), PTSA (2nd Tuesday), and MS - HS transition meetings that increase motivation and involvement of the parents.
Use daily social media message to increase communication to parents and inform them of ways to be involved with their child's academic success. I.e.

- Wednesday - World Changer Wednesday - Student Highlight
- Thursday - Thesaurus Thursday - SAT word of the day
- Friday - Futuristic Friday - College Highlight and The Week Ahead
Key Action #4 - Improve Campus Culture and Climate
What steps will be taken to accomplish Key Action #4?
Adopt and implement strategies to address mental health issues with students to assist with conflict resolution, relationship building, and social/emotional learning needs.
(Safe Space, RSH Programs/Assemblies, Mindfulness, Sister Circles, etc.)
Establish houses within advisory classes to build a sense of sisterhood and belonging in our school community as well as opportunities to develop social, intellectual, physical and practical skills
Schedule and facilitate monthly parent workshops and events to engage and inform parents and community members of current events, curriculum trends and any topic that is vital to the education of their daughter. (Coffee with the Principal, Concilio Classes, College-Readiness Workshops, Transition Events, etc.)
Create and implement an advisory curriculum for 6th grade and others as needed to address instructional gaps and improve study and organizational skills.
Create committees to assist with beautification projects across the campus. (teachers lounge, workroom, hallways, classrooms, main office, patio, etc.)
Enhance and strengthen staff/student mentorships by building relationships during advisory period/clubs/extra-curricular activities
Recognize staff and student accomplishments (announcements, kudos, newsletters, social media, e-mails, notes, etc…)
