HMS Bearcat Bulletin

October 2016

A Note from Ms. Buschmann

We had a great month of September at Hermann Middle School. I just came from the Student of the Month Assembly and seeing our teachers recognize students who are making outstanding positive contributions to our school reminds me of why I love my job so much. You will see photos of our nominees and winners below.

Just as the town of Hermann is bustling during the month of October, the school calendar is also full. Of great importance are Parent/Teacher Conferences. On October 27, teachers will be available from 1:30- 7:00 to discuss your child's progress as well as share results from NWEA testing and the areas of strength identified by that assessment. I firmly believe that we should be partners in your child's education, and conferences are a powerful tool for collaboration. I hope to see you all then.

Counselor's Corner

Part of Middle School is finding your place in social groups. Your student's peers become more important to them as adults become less important. Due to this, impressing their peers and belonging become very important. Traditionally boys achieve this pecking order with physical strength and humor; girls use their communication and interpersonal skills. The following article talks about relational aggression, or more commonly known as "mean girls". It explains why it happens, how it is managed, and what you can do at home to help your students.
