It certainly has been a wild week with the weather. This significant event will certainly go down in the history books. Many of our school families had flooding around their homes and in their neighbourhoods and some had lost power. Thankfully our school did not suffer any flooding and coped well with the heavy rain. I hope that none of our whanau have had any damage to their homes. If you need assistance please let me know and we will see what we can do to help.
On another note, this week is Samoan Language week. This year’s theme for Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa - Samoa Language Week 2021 is Poupou le lotoifale. Ola manuia le anofale which means strengthen the posts of your house, for all to thrive. This is especially important as it relates to the Samoan language. At St Mary’s we believe in celebrating all our cultures and their languages. I encourage our Samoan students to use Samoan when interacting in everyday school life. This week the Arataki team have painted the windows of the Learning Centre with patterns relating to Samoan culture. When you walk into school next have a look at them. They look awesome. Very colourful. I hope you all have an enjoyable long weekend for Queen’s birthday.
