GLBTQ Support Meeting

for parents and caregivers of students from K-12

Understanding the Non-Conforming/Transgender Policy

featuring Carmen X. Urbina and Brianna Stiller, Ph.D.

Approximately 7-10 percent of our students in School District 4J identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, or Queer (GLBTQ). Our GLBTQ students often face harassment or bullying in schools, resulting in sad outcomes that impact their academic achievement and their overall well-being.

During the last 6 years, School District 4J has done many things to improve the environment and culture of our schools, and we know that there is still much more to do. This session will focus on learning about our Non-Conforming/Transgender Policy and how it is implemented in our school communities.

Parents are encouraged to come with questions and concerns. This session is appropriate for parents of students from K-12, as gender nonconforming behaviors that persist and become intense later in childhood often emerge in children as young as 3 years old.

The meeting is open to both parents and allies of gender expansive youth. Learn best practices for supporting LGBTQ students and ask questions in our Q&A panel with Brianna Stiller (4J), Julia Heffernan (UO) and C.J. Pascoe (UO).
