Principal's Perspective
Hello Oak Grove Parents and Families,
Let’s celebrate March, Women's History Month, by spotlighting the 44 women that drive Oak Grove’s success! These tireless ladies relentlessly support each student every minute of every day. Their roles are complex and varied, They change the trajectory of our students lives in the classroom, office, cafeteria, library, playground, counseling, Grove, ELL, and Title room. They encourage, guide, correct, feed, love, and clarify. They make this school what it is. Minute by minute, these brilliant women highlight students’ successes and teach lagging skills. They are tireless. We owe an unpayable debt to their expertise.
Last week in an open-ended survey, when asked how they would change next year’s schedule, the vast majority of these women did not say they wanted more prep time, more classroom support, or more collaboration. Instead, in overwhelming numbers, they said, "We need more uninterrupted time at the beginning of the day to teach reading, writing, and math!" When I taught struggling 5th and 6th grade readers I was always asking for more time to prepare at the start of the day. Not these professionals. The manner in which they prioritize teaching is inspiring.
In addition, they also requested that we open another i-Ready Diagnostic window in March so they could track your student's progress, thus allowing the i-Ready test in May to be optional for all of your students already at grade level. Looking at the photo below, you will see the tremendous number of students already there!
So, hats off! Despite all the limitations of the past two Covid years, these professional women constantly strive to meet the needs of your children. Minute by minute, they warmly support, consistently enforce clear expectations, and rigorously close the academic gap.
With absolute regard for:
Luisa Lazette, Ashley Anderson, Signe Sciapiti, Sarah Reames, Amanda Shelander, Linda Rolie, Amanda Elrod, Shawna Taylor, Judi Zanitsch, Jill Atkinson, Melissa Walker, Amanda Overbeck, Sue Vandagrif, Shannon Serpa, Amber Miranda, Cathy Millbank, Gloria Hoggarth Ramirez, Rikki Gunn, Misty Granstrom, Carey Everett, Jaqueline Esparza, Shelley Goldschmidt, Rachel Terry, Allison Davee, Jenny Hopkins, Shawna Fisher, Jana Sweet, Rachel Buckley, Sarah Eddy, Maria McNeely, Lianne Bailey, Michele Parr, Michelle Schmidt, Olivia Orey, Lori McCargar, Kari Forrest, Alison Wright, Cindy Woodard, Sara Keppinger, Tawnya Arnold, Shelli Campos, Ellie Stanek, Connie Benham, Nina Solis, and Becky Williams.
With joy,
