Next Step Program
Coming together, sharing together, working together, succeeding together -unknown
The Manheim Central School District in collaboration with the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation has developed a new, innovative program for students with disabilities which began at the start of the 2016-2017 school year. In collaboration with OVR and job trainer support through IU 13, the District has established various partnerships with local businesses resulting in employment internships for the students. These partnerships contribute to students’ final year of High School with the goal of perfecting the work and independent living skills necessary for future employment opportunities.
The Next Step Program at Manheim Central is located in a house owned by the district and immersed in the community. The program is aligned with transition needs indicated in each student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP). Our goal is to prepare students for their post-secondary employment and independent living outcomes. The emphasis on functional academics, combined with community-based instruction and real work experience, allows our students to successfully gain the skills needed to become productive and contributing members of their community.
Activities will include:
o Paid Work Crews
o Job Shadows
o 2 Paid/Unpaid Internships, 10 weeks each
