Internship Opportunity for HHES Students
The Doris Duke Clinical Research Continuum is offering a surgery clinical research experience for high school students.
The Department of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin is a first-rate academic surgical program that provides educational experiences, performs groundbreaking research, and delivers superb patient care. Each summer, students are selected to participate in a six-week clinical research experience. The goal of this program is to provide interested individuals the chance to increase their exposure to careers in academic medicine and healthcare. Under the guidance of enthusiastic faculty and medical student mentors, students will learn basic knowledge needed to perform clinical research and understand how physicians integrate research into medical careers. A significant portion of the student’s time will be spent engaged in a research project. Students will spend extensive time studying and writing about a related disease as well. This program is targeted to students with interests in health care careers. While students will not participate in direct patient care activities, they will gain exposure to a wide variety of research and surgery-related careers. The internship also provides opportunities to practice simulated surgery skills, view procedures, and tour healthcare facilities.
Students who indicate an interest in this program for the upcoming summer will be sent additional application materials to complete. This program is targeted to rising Seniors.
