Weekly Update for Army Trail School Families

Janruary 17, 2020

No School on Monday!

No School on Monday, January 20th in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Enjoy the extended weekend!

Birthday and Celebration Snacks

Starting on Monday, January 21 we will be strictly enforcing the Food Allergy Management Program as outlined in the Parent/Student Handbook. It states that, "Students are not allowed to bring food items to school to share with others, including birthday treats or food of any type to share for celebrations or holiday parties." From this point forward, any families that wish to share something with their child's class it must be a non-food item.

Literacy Night

Next Thursday evening on January 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 we will be hosting Literacy Night. This is an exciting event for all Army Trail students and their families to engage with different types of Literacy. We will have literacy with technology, writing campfire stories, art literacy, fishing, reading under the stars, Addison Public Library, DuPage County Forest Preserve, and much more. Everyone that completes the difficult literacy hike through Army Trail will be rewarded with a party featuring hot cocoa, s'mores, and a book fair. Additionally, students that attends will receive an Army Trail branded string bag, a free book, a compass, pizza coupon and a good time while supplies last!

Big picture

5 Essentials Survey

Students and teachers across Illinois will have an opportunity to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. This survey is designed to generate a detailed picture of the inner workings of your child’s school. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.

The survey gathers data related to five indicators that can predict important student outcomes, including improved attendance and larger test score gains. These five indicators that affect and predict school success are:

  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environments
  • Ambitious Instruction

Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will help us understand the conditions at your child’s school and guide improvement. Your identity and survey responses will be kept completely confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.

An email address is not required but you must complete the County (Dupage) and School (Army Trail School 346 Army Trail Blvd) to start the survey.

We are currently at 27% participation, help us meet our goal of 50% Parent Participation!

Dr. Ferney Returns
