Principal Note
Consideration for our Return on January 5th
As has been communicated earlier in the week, D303 plans to return to the model of instruction for all elementary students that we had in the fall. Therefore, parents who opted for ‘in-person’ learning will send their children back to an 8:00-1:40 school day, five days a week.
By the time January 5th gets here, it will be more than six weeks since we conducted in-person learning. Teachers will spend ample time the first weeks back re-establishing routines, reinforcing expectations, and building community through belonging, acknowledgment, and connection activities.
Since students are not transitioning to the majority of their specials, natural movement is minimal. Therefore, teachers and staff have been intentional about getting outside for mask breaks, while Mrs. Acker and Mr. Duncan have been steadfast about getting students outside for PE, so students can get the appropriate amount of exercise, all while having a break from the face coverings. We were blessed with glorious fall weather, allowing PE, mask breaks, outdoor movement breaks, etc. to go off without a hitch. If only our winter could provide similar weather. However, we know Chicagoland weather is unpredictable, and can be incredibly harsh. Please be sure to send your child to school with the appropriate winter attire. As long as the conditions are safe, we will continue to go outside for recess, physical education, and random mask breaks throughout the day.
i-Ready
Students have completed their winter i-Ready diagnostic. We will mail paper copies of diagnostic reports before/during Winter Break, but if you would like to access your child's i-Ready diagnostic information in the student portal, as well as view additional family resources, please watch the video below.
Meal Distribution
Throughout our adaptive pause on in-person instruction, meals will be distributed to D303 families. Breakfast and lunch meals are FREE for all children between the ages of 1 to 18. There is no pre-ordering. Meals are available at Cumberland Green from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM and at Munhall from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM on the following dates: 12/14, 12/17, 12/21, 12/28, and 1/4. On each pick-up date, multiple meals will be provided.
Munhall Giving Tree
A HUGE thank you to the numerous Munhall families who have already donated gift cards for the Munhall Giving Tree. We will continue to accept gift card donations through next Wednesday, December 16th.
The last nine months have been extremely difficult, and one of our responsibilities as a school is to partner with our families and provide outreach support when needed. If your family is in need or has experienced a hardship, please reach out to me at Jarrod.Buxton@d303.org or Gina Rockwell, school social worker, at Gina.Rockwell@d303.org.
Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Fall Picture Pick-Up
Fall pictures are still available for pick-up in the Munhall main office. We have many pictures that have yet to be retrieved.
When arriving to Munhall, press the silver buzzer and indicate that you are picking up fall pictures. Be prepared to share your child's first and last name, grade level, and classroom teacher.
For students who had their picture taken, but no picture order was submitted, parents can pick-up a print of cardstock that contains your child’s picture, as well as ordering information.
Have a great weekend!
