Wow! I can't believe we're in December. Time is flying by. Fortunately, I can report that we've seen a ton of positive growth taking place at South Meadows. Our students have shown strong scores in Reading and Math on their assessments, we have been reducing tardiness, and kids have been building community together. I know that the return to school after so much disruption has been incredibly challenging across the country, but I've seen our students, families, and staff overcome a lot by supporting each other, and working together when challenges arise. I want to thank our families for their support, grace, and collaboration in this difficult, but crucial, return to school in the time of mandates, political division, and societal struggles with mental health and violence. I know that at South Meadows, we can overcome tough circumstances and see our kids thrive. I'm so excited to see the great things our kids accomplish this year and beyond, and if we don't work together, our kids won't achieve as much. So, once again, thank you for staying in touch with your teachers and the school. We're here to serve our community, and I can say that we have so much potential for greatness. Let's keep it up!

The biggest things you can do to help us maximize success is to keep checking ParentVue for grade updates and attendance. One of our top priorities right now is getting students to class on time. If students use their hallway time effectively, that will reduce misbehavior and conflict, and will prioritize academic excellence. If you know that your child is struggling with getting to class on time because you see that they've been tardy in the attendance section of ParentVue, or if you have gotten a call from Mr. Gomez, we are grateful for you to take the time to emphasize how important it is that your child is in class when the bell rings. This helps our efforts for safety in the halls, and also using every minute available for the kids to learn and grow. With your help, we'll continue to see positive outcomes in this area.

Thank you again for your participation in conferences in November. You're welcome to reach out any time (not just at conferences) if you need anything, or even if you just want to send a "thank you" to one of our hard working staff. Your kind words mean a lot to the educators who pour their heart, soul, and energy into this work.

The week of December 6th, students will be writing letters to those serving abroad in the military. We are proud to support our armed forces.

December 9th, 10th, and 11th at 7:00 in the commons: South Meadows School Play - The Pony Espresso. Come support our amazing performers and stage crew!

Midterm grades are posted by December 17th.

Winter break begins on December 20th and we return to school on January 3rd.

Ongoing Events:

Parents can meet with the school administration to open a chat session the first Tuesday of each month. To make this as easy as possible for everyone, we will do it virtually with Google Meet. You can access the link on our school calendar. At 4:30, we will have our chat in English, and at 5:00, we will switch to Spanish. If any parent wants to work with us to start a Parent Group, we would love to!!

On the last Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM, we have a virtual parent meeting in Spanish with the South Meadows administration and the Hilhi administration. Check our calendar for the link. Our hope is to expand these meetings to all of our elementary schools at least a couple of times a year so that our entire Hilhi community is connected.

By the end of the first weekend of each month, look for a newsletter from the principal. It will have updates and information. These are also published on our website.

Please check with your student and visit our website for after-school clubs and opportunities. We are creating many activities and we want the children to participate! More are added frequently.

¡Guau! No puedo creer que estemos en diciembre. El tiempo pasa volando. Afortunadamente, puedo informar que hemos visto un gran crecimiento positivo en South Meadows. Nuestros estudiantes han mostrado buenos puntajes en lectura y matemáticas en sus evaluaciones, hemos estado reduciendo las tardanzas y los niños han estado construyendo una comunidad juntos. Sé que el regreso a la escuela después de tanta interrupción ha sido increíblemente desafiante en todo el país, pero he visto a nuestros estudiantes, familias y personal superar mucho apoyándose unos a otros y trabajando juntos cuando surgen desafíos.
