BHS Library Report
1st Quarter 2017
Statistics
Decrease from 2016 Is Compensated by Database Use
Overall circs are down from 2016 but our Database use numbers more than compensate for this decrease.
Q1 2017 numbers indicate that students are using databases in lieu of print nonfiction/reference for research.
Use of Library-created Resesarch Guides Drives Database Use
The Library's website host allows us to create research guides very easily and efficiently for "one-stop shoppring" research guides that provide support for students throughout their research assignment.
1:1 Makes Database Use Spike
As expected, full implementation of 1:1, combined with teacher use of Library Research Guides, resulted in a huge spike of database use.
1st Quarter Highlights
August: Research Guides!
We were really pleased with the interest we had--right from the beginning of the year--for the Library Research Guides.
Here's a sample of a guide created for Mr. Pedersen's AP World History class. He's asked the Library to create guides for all of his assigned research projects.
September:MFRL Library Card Drive
A successful collaboration with the Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library. We visited over 20 English classes to present MFRL's eResources and to provide applications for public library cards. Over 200 applications (and counting!) returned! Many thanks to Dr. Miear and Ms. Kiran for supporting our Libraries.
October: MakerStudio Emerges
Ms. Stoll's AP Computer Classes were the first class to use the new MakerStudio by designing, printing, and advertising their own 3D designs.
2nd Quarter Areas of Focus
- Increase circulation numbers through book displays, Destiny Discover Collections, and closer follow-up of English class checkouts/renewals.
- Increase MakerStudio class and individual use by closely aligning with teacher and student interests and needs, creating activites that provide a low-barrier of entry for less-experienced students, and heavily promoting resources and activities to our most vulnerable students.
