ATTENTION 3rd and 4th GRADE PARENTS --The ISTEP, Part 2 will be administered from April 18 - May 6, 2016 at HPE. This portion of the testing will be completed on the computer. Your student's teacher knows the specific testing dates and times that your student will be testing.
Tips for Parents during ISTEP Week:
- Make sure that your child gets to bed on time. Research shows that being well rested helps students do better on tests.
- Your child should eat a healthy, high protein breakfast each morning.
- Make sure your child gets up early enough so that they do not feel rushed in the morning.
- Please DO NOT schedule any appointments during testing times. If a student comes in late to school, they must wait until the test is over before they can go to class.

Hamilton Southeastern Schools
Kindergarten Round-Up at Harrison Parkway will be held on Thursday, April 14, 2016 from 5:00-7:00pm.
On this evening, you and your child will have the opportunity to meet the Kindergarten teachers, tour a Kindergarten classroom, take a school bus ride and become more familiar with Harrison Parkway as a fun and enriching Kindergarten year approaches. We are excited to welcome our new 2016-2017 HPE Patriots.
*The state cut-off for Kindergarten enrollment is August 1st. HSE Schools have an early entrance period for Kindergarten from August 1st to September 1st. We are unable to accept any early Kindergarten enrollments after September 1st.
I had the privilege of visiting the kindergarten classrooms last week and presenting caring classroom lessons. We read the book, the Rainbow Fish and discussed how caring was shown in the story. The students then colored a picture of the Rainbow Fish with the reminder that when they share, they show caring. I enjoyed visiting your child’s classroom and look forward to visiting their classroom again soon.

Sharing Experiences from Music and the Classrooms
An Evening with our Second Graders
Wednesday, May 11th, 6:30 pm
Parent letters were sent home on Thursday.
A copy of the letter is below for your reference.
During the coming weeks, students will share their knowledge of folk tales, rhymes, fables and stories in their classrooms and in music. Literature is the starting point for a journey of experiences and discoveries resulting in writing, speaking, singing playing and active imaginations.
Imagine a day…
…when the edge of the map is only the beginning of what we can explore.
What would you explore?
On May 11th at 6:30 pm, our Second Grade Students will present some of their experiences through the mediums of music, movement and writing. The evening will take place in the gym and in your child’s classroom. Please mark this date on your calendar.
We look forward to what lies ahead.
Mrs. Carter, Mrs. Bauters, Mrs. Bullington, Mrs. Cole, Miss Seitz, and Mrs. Walden
*Please note: The evening of May 11th replaces the 2nd grade program previously scheduled for Thursday, May 12th at 2 pm.

A Note from the Nurse
Accidents happen during the day ranging from landing in a mud puddle, spilling milk at lunch or not making it to the rest room quick enough. Please – regardless of the grade level, pack your student an extra set of clothes in their backpack for those oopsie’s that occur during the day. The nurse's clinic has a very limited supply of clothes and sizes. My many thanks to those who have borrowed clothes and promptly returned them laundered!
HPE Cafeteria News
Beginning April 15th we will start selling snacks for fourth grade students only on Fridays. Snacks sold will comply with the Healthy Snack Program. Students will need to have available money in their account to purchase a snack without causing them to go negative. I will start offering vanilla ice cream for $.70.
We can only accept 10 visitors per day because of space. Please call before 9:30 to reserve a space for lunch. You must have a valid background check on file.
When sending cash or check, please indicate student’s full name, ID number and teacher’s name.
Sign up through Skyward to receive low balance in lunch account emails.
A debit meal is provided if a student has a negative balance for.
When sending a packed lunch, please include utensils but do not send soda or foods needing reheated.
--- Mrs. Berling, Food Services Manager
Attendance Line Voicemail
If your child will be absent from school, please call the HPE Attendance Line by 9:00 a.m. at 915-4210. If you know in advance that your child will be absent, you may call the attendance line's voicemail anytime and leave a message. If you know your student will be absent for more than two school days for any reason other than illness, we ask that you complete a Prearranged Absence Form (available in the HPE office) at leas one week prior to the absence.
Student attendance at HPE is vitally important. Please make every attempt possible to plan appointments and vacations outside of school hours. Regular attendance improves student performance and is expected as an integral part of our state mandated School Improvement Plan.
Sign In Procedures
As a reminder, the sign in procedure at Harrison Parkway includes signing your child in or out using a computer. If you are signing your child out of school, please have your driver's license with you, as you will need it to complete the sign-out process.
Arrival & Dismissal Procedures
Students are to be dropped off and picked up at the front of the drive by the school's front doors. Please have your child exit from the passenger side of all vehicles. Students should stay in their seatbelts/safety seats until your vehicle has come to a complete stop and your child is ready to get out of the car. Please only dismiss and receive your child at the front of the school. Do not release students from the back of the line so they mush walk past other cars releasing children. It is imperative that cars remain in a single line along the curb. Please do not attempt to pass cars releasing students as this creates an unsafe situation for our children. Please use extreme caution in our parking lot and drive in the morning and afternoon, as both are high-traffic times. Thank you for your part in keeping our children safe.

State Park Passes Now Available for Loan from the Library
With temperatures finally on the rise, thoughts are turning to the great outdoors and exploring all that Indiana has to offer. In honor of the state’s bicentennial, the Indiana State Library has now provided each library with a state park pass for loan to library cardholders.
When you are ready to hit the trail, simply stop by the Adult Services desk at either the Fishers or Noblesville Library and check for availability. Due to high demand, the passes will be available on a first come, first served basis, with no holds or renewals available. Passes can be checked out for up to 7 days.
Like other library materials, if passes are returned after the due date, late fees will apply. If passes are lost, a full replacement cost will be assessed. For further information, check out the library’s website at www.hepl.lib.in.us.
