FMS: Mental Health Screenings
The Fulton Public School’s District School Mental Health Team will be conducting a voluntary district-wide mental health screening this fall. The purpose of the screening is to identify social-emotional supports to help all Fulton students be successful. All information collected through the screening will be kept confidential. Screening tools are not diagnostic. Rather, screening data will be used to identify students who may benefit from additional assessment or supports for emotional or behavioral problems. As part of the screening process, teachers in all buildings will complete a brief assessment of students’ social, academic, and emotional behavior. Students in grades 3-12 will also complete a brief behavioral self-assessment. Participation in the screening is completely voluntary: parents or guardians may notify their building counselor if they do not want their child to participate by September 25th.
Why screen? Fulton School District is committed to helping all students be successful at school. The district already provides a variety of emotional and behavioral supports. Conducting a social-emotional health screening gives Fulton School District one more tool to best serve young people in this community. Screening data can help identify students who may need additional help and allows for earlier identification of possible problems. The screening also provides a snapshot of current social-emotional needs of students in the district to inform ongoing improvement efforts.
What screeners will be used? Teachers in all buildings will complete the Social, Academic, and Emotional Behavior Risk Screener (SAEBRS) for students in their classroom. Students in grades 6-8 will complete a self-report measure called the MySAEBRS.
Is the screening mandatory? No. Parents/guardians can request for their child not to participate in the screening process.
When and where will the screening take place? Teachers will complete the screeners during regularly-scheduled, district professional development in October. FMS students will complete the screener on October 8th. This date was changed to to technology issues.

FMS Counseling Department: Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier and Ms. Jo
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by logging into classlink and clicking on the FMS Guidance Office Icon. This form comes only to the counselor's. 6th graders will learn about this form on Wednesday and Thursday through their PE classes when Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier and Mr. Varner come in to visit. You can also ask your teacher for help. If you can't locate the icon in classlink, your teacher can send us a note. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be helped immediately. Our form is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time if the counselors are tied up in a meeting or helping another student.
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Burfield works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at cburfield@fulton58.org.
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

Dear FMS families,
I hope you have had a wonderful week!
Next week, sixth grade will continue our 24 Styles of Music unit. Topics include: Country & Western, Early Rock & Roll, Pop Rock, and Heavy Metal. Students should be reviewing notes every night in order to prepare for our end-of-unit exam. All power points and notes for genres we have discussed so far are on our Google classroom.
7th and 8th grade choirs will continue rehearsing our fall concert repertoire. Our fall concert is scheduled for October 26th at 7pm at Southside Baptist Church. More information to come soon!
CHOIR POLOS - all 7th and 8th grade choir students were sent home with an order form for our black uniform polo. We wear these polos during performances. Sizes Youth Small-Adult XL are $13; Adult XXL is $16. These order forms and money are due October 6th. Checks may be made payable to Fulton Middle School. These shirts are not optional and are required to be worn by all choir members.
7th and 8th grade Arts Alive classes will also continue rehearsing for our fall showcase. We will also continue exploring our improvisation skills through games.
Practice tracks for ALL 7th and 8th grade classes are posted on our Google classroom. It is the students' responsibility to listen to and sing along with these tracks EVERY NIGHT. With the limitations we have been given regarding rehearsals (singing outside, six feet apart, etc), we need every single classmate to practice outside of school so we can progress farther during our group rehearsals.

Hello everyone!
Thank you for all of your hard work! It does not go unnoticed.
REMINDER:
Take your instrument home after each day of band! With students permanently leaving their instruments on the cart, the custodial staff is struggling to bring everyone's instruments down. It also severely clutters up the band room. Plus, we never know when our last day of school could happen and your instrument would be left at school, leaving you not able to complete online assignments. So.. TAKE YOUR INSTRUMENT HOME!!!
Next week:
8th Grade - Continuing with our review and tone building. Begin looking at more possible concert music.
7th Grade - Continuing review and tone building.
6th Grade - Beginning sounds on the horn and learning our first notes
As always, if you'd like to reach out or have any questions, please feel free to email us at anytime!

News From The Art Room: Week 3!
Hello everyone!
The fourth week of Art class was a lot of fun. The last few students finished up their first projects and now every class is on project two. As you saw last week in the smore we have some exciting projects coming up!
I already like the progress our seventh grade classes have made on their Graffiti Art walls. I think these are going to turn out fantastic. Our sixth grade class have been learning some great tricks on how to create illusions in their art as well. Then at least a few eighth graders have really taken the American Gothic 2.0 project head on! This is going to be a tougher project, but I know everyone is up for the challenge.
I'm excited to send graded work home here in the next week or two. I also hope that my students are excited to show their parents everything they have been working on!
Artfully Yours,
Mr. Z
