CALLING ALL LOCAL BUSINESSES:
We are excited to announce Halloween in the Halls is inviting local businesses into the school to "rent" rooms for FREE! #MakeADifferenceMonday
Tune in every Monday for #MakeADifferenceMonday where we will feature a stakeholder, student, or fellow alumni answering "Five questions for B-C-S"
This week B-C-S is featuring, OHHS Band Director, Travis Magoto!
1. What is your name? What is your current title with B-C-S Local School District and how long have you been employed with the school?
•My name is Travis Magoto, I am the OHHS Band Director (assist at OHMS) and this is my 12th year at BCS.
2. How do you maintain discipline in the marching band environment and still create a fun and positive atmosphere?
•Student leadership is crucial to a successful year. Band students are expected to take ownership in their program. From show planning, to behind the scenes preparation, to rehearsals, our students are what make us successful. Band is a class, but much like many other activities and organizations, it is a family that is incredibly fun and rewarding to be a part of.
3. What accomplishments fill you with pride so far this year?
•There are many! We welcomed over 25 freshmen to our high school program (who are doing a great job!). We performed 3 different halftime shows in the first 4 weeks of the season, including a 70's show, our alumni band show (with over 75 alumni!), and our annual patriotic tribute, which includes our 7th & 8th-grade band members as well. In addition, we were invited to Bowling Green State University to perform at halftime of their football game against Eastern Michigan. I am proud of our students every time they represent this school and community as "The Pride of Oak Harbor," a name given to us many years ago, and one that we strive to live up to every day.
4. Please share some of the exciting events that the band department has planned in the next couple of months?
•We are very excited about the month of November!
- On Thursday, November 8th at 7:30pm the HS Marching Band is going to perform their first annual "Season-In-Review" concert, which will contain a variety of music performed during this year's marching season.
- The very next day, November 9th, we will be welcoming The Ohio State University Marching Band to Oak Harbor High School! The OSUMB is stopping by OHHS and performing a concert inside the HS gymnasium en route to their performance in East Lansing for the Ohio State / Michigan State game the next day. Tickets are $10 for this performance and are now on sale! For more information, please check out the band's website: www.OakHarborBands.com.
- Finally, on Sunday, November 25th at 7:00 pm the Toledo Symphony Orchestra is returning to Oak Harbor for a "side-by-side" concert with the OHHS Music Department and guests. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and community! Tickets are $20 ($15 for students/seniors) and can be purchased by contacting our choir director Mr. Russ Exlos-Raber (rraber@bcssd.com). This concert is guaranteed to sell out, so be sure to get your tickets ASAP!
5. Please share what you enjoy doing outside of school?
• I enjoy spending time with my family. My wife, Abby, and I have two beautiful children, Claire (5) and Andrew (2). Claire just started Kindergarten this year at R.C. Waters! During the summer I enjoy boating (I love to water ski!). This past summer I got back into running and am preparing for the Columbus Half-Marathon in 2 weeks. I also love watching football in the fall. Go Bucks and go Bengals!
