## Introduction

In Unit 2, we learned how to solve equations, such as one step, two step, and multistep.

Each equation had a variable, x, and we had to solve, factor, and elvaluate expressions.

## One Step Equations In a one step equation, there is a variable, which is x in the picture, and we have to find out the value of x. You have to isolate the variable, which means to get the variable by itself, in this case the variable is 12. You subtract 12 to get rid of the constant. You do it to both sides because what you do on one side, you must do to the other side. If the constant is a negative, you add it by itself. After that, 12-12=0 and 25-12= 13. You bring the variable and the number and the answer is r=13. | ## Two Step Equations In a two step equation, there are two step you have to solve to find the value of the variable, which is b in this example. You first subtract the constant by itself, which is five. Next, you bring the rest of the equation down, which leaves you with 8b=24. But since this is a two step equation, there is still another step. Since we want to know the value of only b and not 8b, we divide 8b over 8 on both sides. That leaves only one b=3. | ## Multistep EquationsIn a multistep equation, there are more than two steps. You also have to solve it in - Distribute
- Combine like terms
- Multiply and divide
- Add and subtract

## One Step Equations

## Multistep Equations

In a multistep equation, there are more than two steps. You also have to solve it in **order**. The steps are:

- Distribute
- Combine like terms
- Multiply and divide
- Add and subtract

You first have to distribute. You multiply the 4 and x and 4 and 6. Then you rewrite the rest of the problem **exactly** so there is no mistakes. The problem so far is 4x+ 24-11=25. The next step is to combine like terms. 24-11 contains numbers of **like terms**. So you solve that and you get 13. You rewrite the problem and it is 4x+13=25. Now it is a two step equation. You subtract the constant, which is 13 by itself on **both** sides, which leaves you with 4x=25. And since we want to know the value of just **one x**, we divide 4x by 4 on **both** sides which leaves us with x=3.
