Richie a young colored 17 year old just out of high school meets at a stand still. He doesn't know what he's going to do with his life. College was to expensive so he served in the army but what he didn't know was the horrifying plague of war. Going in the army like a chicken with its head cut off, not knowing how to shoot a rifle, no hand to hand combat, nothing. He meets his friends for now but he wasn't expecting too be there long. until he got called into battle. Shipped off with his colleges too go fight the war in Vietnam. but, what he doesn't know is the harsh conditions and suffering he's about too face.
"My father used to call all soldiers angel warriors... Because usually they get boys to fight wars. Most of you aren’t old enough to vote yet."

Out of the 2,709,918 American soldiers that went too fight. Walter was one of the lucky 390,082 too make it back alive. over 3.1 million American soldiers died in this horrific war.

Walter Myers, Born on the streets of Martinsburg, West Virginia. living in a "different" neighborhood he didn't have much Opportunities too excel in his goals so he dropped out of high school. Then he decided too enroll in the army at 17 (on his birthday). He finally left the army and went too go live in Jersey city, New Jersey with his wife and his son which was also a outstanding writer. It was then when he was becoming a known writer, winning the John Newbery medal, Michael L. Printz, Coretta Scott award, Jane Adamms children's book award, Anne V. Zarrow throughout 1989 too 2003. An writing over 50 published books. Walter Dean Myers died at the age of 76 on July 1st in Manhattan, New York
