March Parent Updates
March 2016
QVE Welcomes New Kindergarten Students and Families!
Quail Valley Elementary invites you to Kindergarten Registration for 2016-17 school year!
Parents can begin the first step of kindergarten registration beginning April 1 through April 15
Pre-Kindergarten Update: Quail Valley Preschool Program will be moving to Lantern Lane for the 2016-2017 school year. We are currently working with Dr. Blake, principal of Lantern Lane, to work out a transition plan. If you questions or would like more information, please contact Ms. Spears at 281-634-5040.
Kindergarten registration dates for the 2016-17 school year have been set for Fort Bend ISD elementary schools. From April 1 through April 15, parents of eligible kindergarten students can begin the first step of the enrollment process using the new student online registration system.
A link for online registration will be on the District’s website beginning Friday, April 1. Parents are able to complete Step One from their home computer, their mobile device, a public library computer or a computer that will be made available at the campus. To access the new student online registration system, parents will need to have an active email address to quickly create the account.
After completing online registration, parents must then contact their zoned campus to set up an appointment to finish the enrollment process. All enrollment appointments will be held throughout the week of April 11-15 during elementary school hours (8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.). As a convenience to parents and guardians, evening appointments will be available on April 12 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. In order to ensure adequate staffing, resources and student placement, it is imperative that parents register their kindergarten student during this enrollment window timeframe.
To register for kindergarten, a child must be five (5) years of age on or before September 1, and parents must bring the following required documents:
• Child’s birth certificate or its equivalent
• Immunization records
• Social security card (If unavailable, a state ID number will be assigned)
• Proof of residence, including a deed, lease or mortgage agreement
• A current utility bill (gas, water or electric)
• A government issued photo ID of the student’s parent or guardian, with their FBISD address (Current TX Driver’s License/ID Card)
For more information regarding kindergarten registration, contact us at 281-634-5040. Please use the School Finder link on the FBISD website to determine your zoned campus. From the FBISD homepage, go to “Quick Links” and click “Attendance Zones.” Then click on the School Finder link.

Your Voice Matters!
Building a Foundation of Trust and Transparency
Thank you for visiting the ‘Your Voice Matters’ section of our District's website. We are committed to providing transparency and collaboration on the critical issues that face our District. Throughout the past year, our administration has gathered feedback from students, parents, staff and the community. Your ideas, suggestions and concerns provide us with valuable feedback about our District that continues to help us plan and improve.
Above you will find our Upcoming Conversations--an ongoing calendar of two-way conversations taking place in our District. As each outreach and survey initiative is complete, we will share the findings with you here.
In addition, we recently launched a new communication tool, Chat with Charles: Let’s Talk, which was designed to put you directly in contact with the appropriate staff person who can best address your specific question, concern or compliment.
We welcome your voice to these critical conversations, as we work together for the growth, empowerment and success of all of our children.
Thank you for your continued support-
Your FBISD Leadership Team
Survey closes tomorrow, March 31st. If you would like to participate please click on the following link for more information: http://www.fortbendisd.com/Page/977
Message From Nurse Kerrie
· Birthday Treats: You may provide cupcakes for the class in observance of your student’s birthday. The cupcakes must be from a bakery or store; not homemade and need to be peanut/nut free. Here’s the procedure to follow:
o Please notify your student’s teacher and the nurse a week prior to bringing cupcakes to school as there is a process to follow for notifying you of food allergies in your student’s classroom so that all students may enjoy the cupcakes!
o If your student has food allergies and you would prefer your student not eat birthday cupcakes, please notify your student’s teacher and the nurse.
o Cupcakes should be delivered in the morning to the front office and they will be served the last 15 minutes of the day in the classroom.
¨ An alternative to cupcakes would be a small “Birthday Bag” filled with non-edible items such as pencils, erasers, stickers, etc. No candy or food please!
Thanks!
Kerrie
Habit of the Month: Sharpen the Saw
THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE
HABIT 7: SHARPEN THE SAW
Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. Here are some examples of activities:
Physical:Beneficial eating, exercising, and resting
Social/Emotional:Making social and meaningful connections with others
Mental:Learning, reading, writing, and teaching
Spiritual:Spending time in nature, expanding spiritual self through meditation, music, art, prayer, or service
As you renew yourself in each of the four areas, you create growth and change in your life. Sharpen the Saw keeps you fresh so you can continue to practice the other six habits. You increase your capacity to produce and handle the challenges around you. Without this renewal, the body becomes weak, the mind mechanical, the emotions raw, the spirit insensitive, and the person selfish. Not a pretty picture, is it?
Feeling good doesn't just happen. Living a life in balance means taking the necessary time to renew yourself. It's all up to you. You can renew yourself through relaxation. Or you can totally burn yourself out by overdoing everything. You can pamper yourself mentally and spiritually. Or you can go through life oblivious to your well-being. You can experience vibrant energy. Or you can procrastinate and miss out on the benefits of good health and exercise. You can revitalize yourself and face a new day in peace and harmony. Or you can wake up in the morning full of apathy because your get-up-and-go has got-up-and-gone. Just remember that every day provides a new opportunity for renewal--a new opportunity to recharge yourself instead of hitting the wall. All it takes is the desire, knowledge, and skill (https://www.stephencovey.com/7habits/7habits-habit7.php).
