November Family Newsletter
2022
Dear Marthasville Students and Families,
Happy November! This year just keeps rolling right along and our Blue Jays are learning and growing more each day. We had a wonderful turnout at the Pumpkin Palooza! Lots of great designs and ideas were carved and it was so nice to have families together having fun. I also want to give a HUGE shout out to all the parents who donated items for our teacher luncheon on Parent Teacher Conference Night. The staff and I appreciate each and every one of you!! Halloween parties were a big success! I loved seeing all of the parent volunteers. Thank you for supporting our teachers and students. Second quarter is sure to bring many more opportunities for families to be together in our building. Mr. Logan has been working super hard to prepare our students for the Veteran's Day program and our 1st-3rd graders have been busy getting ready for their special Christmas musical in December. The character ed word for this month is Gratitude. I hope every single one of you know that I am extremely grateful for the partnership you have with us to ensure your Blue Jay is taken care of, welcomed, and loved while they are in our school. Thank you for sending us your Blue Jays each and every day! I hope your November is full of gratitude and joy!
Most Caring,
Mrs. Kristen Daffron

Attendance Reminder
Read A Thon
We are starting our Library Read A Thon on November 1st. This is a fundraiser for the library as well as a way to encourage your students to read. This fundraiser is all online! Each adult will go online, register their student as a reader, and then the fun starts! There are two ways to earn prizes during the Read A Thon. Students can win by logging their minutes that they read as well as getting donations from family and friends. Once you register your student, you will see all of the available prizes. The students will get their own page to log all of their information as soon as they are registered. Mrs. Bartel and Mrs. Rowe are happy to help the kids learn how to log their minutes read. We also encourage the students to ask for donations. The donors will donate through your students page. They will be able to use a card to give any amount.
This is the only fundraiser that the Library does. Our goal is to raise enough to buy some new bookshelves, Makerspace supplies, books, and other library supplies.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/dmQFCp/1 and following the simple instructions. Thank you so very much for your help! We appreciate all you do at home to encourage your students to read. If you have any questions, please email me at kayla.bartel@sdowmo.org.
Thanks so much,
Mrs. Bartel and Mrs. Rowe
ART CORNER
Next week I will be getting K-2 onto my Google Classroom and then on to Artsonia. It will take a little while to get going. Parents and caregivers, be on the look out for information from Artsonia about viewing your child's artwork online.
K-2
We have spent first quarter getting settled into the routines and expectations of the art room. During 2nd quarter, K-2 students will be using their devices to get on the Art Google Classroom as well as Artsonia. Artsonia is an online art gallery that parents can use to view their student's artwork as well as purchase items with their student's artwork printed on them. Students will be learning how to photograph and post their artwork to their gallery. K-2 parents, be on the look out for information about logging on to your child's account!
3rd-6th
have been working on Art Quests to unlock our first four studios: Drawing, Painting, Paper Arts, and Sculpture. Students are now completing "Art Challenges" and designing their own art projects to earn individual XP as well as XP for their teams. Students have been enjoying this "gamified" version of choice-based art!

All but 3 vendors showed
Comment cards
Several comments about extra/more advertising wanted
We put posts on facebook, put signs at 47 and hwy d as well as reached out to a person in washington that posted to a page with access to over 300 vendors
Will need to brainstorm on other ways to advertise more in the future
Feedback received that it was slow, but other vendors around the area that were at other craft fairs stated that theirs were slow too
Nice weather may have affected this
Not having more outside vendors may have hindered people from stopping
Next year may look into merging Marthasville Pumpkin hunt and craft fair.
Spring/Summer craft fair opinions?

Sun Shades- do we have enough for 2? Or 1 this year and work towards another one next year?
Cost of sunshade at the website previously mentioned: $3033
Does this include delivery?
Does this include installation?
Teacher(s) who is/are requesting it will need to fill out the request form. Need more information from the requesting teacher (s).
Mrs. Daffron informed the PTG that the school is getting a grant from MFA Oil for $3000, which will help cover the cost of the Sun Shades. They may request additional financial help from PTG if the grant does not cover the entire cost.
Option of new picnic tables with adjustable umbrellas? Wood is breaking on current ones and the tables need to be replaced.
May potentially look into octagon shaped picnic tables as they can fit more people and could be used by classes.
Lea will look into prices.
Going to try to steer away from wood and maybe look at the rubber coated metal ones.
Outdoor Classroom
Actual cost of the pavilion was $5315.
Deposit of $903.55 was paid by debit per Elizabeth Voss.
