MVMS Eagle Newsletter
November 22, 2019
Mesa Verde wishes you and your family a happy and bountiful Thanksgiving Day. We are thankful for all of our students. Enjoy the break. See you in December.
Adopt A Family
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! The time when we support families in need of a little extra assistance making ends meet and providing gifts for their children this holiday season. This year, we are collecting gift cards only. You can donate two ways:
Your child’s classroom may be collecting gift cards
You can drop off a gift card to the MVMS front desk
Gift card collection will take place from November 4 to December 7. Any denomination or type is appreciated! Popular gift cards include Target, Vons, Old Navy, Walmart. Thank you for supporting our community.
** If your family is in need of assistance this holiday season, please contact Lisa Marcotte at lmarcotte@powayusd.com.
Volunteers Needed: Step It Up Fundraiser
The Step It Up fundraiser is on Friday, December 6th. The fundraiser itself raises funds for student life on campus for the students by the students. Funds raised help to improve and offset the cost of lunchtime activities, dances, and other enrichment activities for the students.
Parent volunteers will be helping supervise the multiple inflatable obstacle courses and other prize areas. There are several volunteer time slots available starting at 9:30 am. To see the time slots and volunteer, please click here.
A Rainbow Over Mesa Verde
After all the rain this week, this beautiful rainbow was captured over the school on Thursday. Always remember to find the beauty in every storm.

Two Little Known Facts about Thanksgiving
FACT 1
"Jingle Bells" was originally a Thanksgiving song. James Pierpont originally composed the song Jingle Bells in 1857 for children celebrating Thanksgiving at his Boston Sunday School. It gained popularity so quickly that it was repeated again at Christmas, and then again, and again, and again.
FACT 2
"Houston, the turkey has landed." According to the National Turkey Foundation, when Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin of Apollo 11 sat down to eat their first meal on the moon, their foil food packets contained roasted turkey.
